Bengals Close to Finalizing Contract Extensions for Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase
Ask, and you shall receive. Cincinnati’s quarterback has been campaigning for two of his guys to get contracts and it is looking like his wish is about to be fulfilled. Numerous reports are emerging revealing that the Bengals are close to finalizing contract extensions for Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase.
Joe Burrow loves his band of offense and he wants to keep it together. Joe has not been even remotely shy about this. Burrow signed a five-year, $275 million contract extension in 2023, and he has publicly said he is willing to restructure his deal to help keep the wide receivers in Cincinnati.
Nevertheless, Tom Pelissero helped to break the news regarding Ja’Marr and Tee. He states,
“A major development in Cincinnati, with the Bengals now close to deals with Joe Burrow’s two top weapons.
The Bengals have made significant progress on contract extensions with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, and both deals could be finalized in the coming days, sources tell me and Ian Rapoport.
It now appears Joe Burrow will get his wish: Both star WRs in Cincy for years to come.”
Of course this is great news to the ears of Joe Burrow and many Bengals fans. However, when it comes to any sports deals all it really boils down to are the numbers. Too much and a team can find themselves hurting as the years go by. Too little, and a player could walk.
So when it comes to financials in the Higgins and Chase situation, what are we possibly looking at? Well, NFL Senior insider Dianna Russini reveals,
“The Bengals have been very motivated to extend their superstar receivers.
Significant progress has been made with both Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase, the latter of whom received his first offer from the team during the combine.
Expect the duo to received over $70 million per year combined.”
NFL reporter Aaron Wilson was able to back up Russini. He mentions, “On Bengals contract talks with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, several league sources expressed optimism of developing contract talks: with average valuations projected of $40M annually for Chase and $28M annually for Higgins.”
Interesting. Well, if Chase’s contract does end up averaging somewhere in the range of $40.1 million to $41 million per year. Then he will top Myles Garrett becoming the highest-paid non-QB in the NFL.

Therefore, those are some healthy sounding contracts if we may so ourselves. However, having an offensive trio all in their 20’s gives Cincinnati plenty of time to work towards a championship. The only issue most likely would be beefing up on the defensive side of the ball. But no doubt they are working to get stronger in that aspect.
Nonetheless, Higgins and Chase have been big components in the Bengals’ success. Chase in particular was unstoppable this past season. Leading the NFL in catches (127), receiving yards (1,708) and touchdown catches (17). However, Higgins cannot be ignored either. He had back-to-back seasons with more than 1,000 receiving yards in 2021 and 2022 and set a career-high with touchdown catches (10) in 2024. Obviously, these players are worth cracking open the bank.
