Baltimore Ravens Derailed Cincinnati Bengals On Thursday Night Football
The Ravens beat the Bengals Week 5 in an overtime tilt that ended with a score of 38-41. Last week Cincinnati had a blowout win against the Raiders. But as the two division rivals clashed on the field tonight it felt like the Bengals were more in sync with each other than the Ravens were. The Ravens only had six first downs in the first half. And the Bengals won the time of possession with almost double the amount of time as the Ravens. So how was it that the Baltimore Ravens derailed the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday Night Football? It was another wild ending between the two teams.
The Bengals scored a touchdown on their first drive. There were 26 and 19 yard passes that the Ravens gave up on the drive. And the Bengals got some help due to a defensive holding call on the Ravens. It was 4th & 2 at Baltimore’s 2 yard line so the penalty gave them a fresh set of downs. The Ravens answered with a touchdown of their own at the start of the second quarter. However, they couldn’t get anything going after that and the score was 14-7 at the half. But, the defense did sack Joe Burrow twice in the first half.
The Ravens first play of the third quarter was an offensive holding penalty. Then Lamar Jackson had all day to throw but no one was open, scrambling around he only gained a yard. He completed an 11-yard pass but an illegal formation penalty forced them to fourth down and a punt. The Bengals took the field and Joe Burrows hit Ja’Marr Chase for a 67-yard touchdown. Chase just outran the defenders. Safety Kyle Hamilton had been officially ruled out of the game. The Bengals were up 21-7.

But the Ravens’ Marlon Humphrey forced a fumble giving their offense the ball. They had great field position and five plays later Derrick Henry ran for the 1-yard touchdown after some nifty scrambling from Jackson. Henry has now scored a touchdown in every game this season. On their third touchdown Jackson found Wallace for a short gain. The Bengals thought he had stepped out of bounds and let up. However he did remain in bounds and scored an 87-yard touchdown. But the Ravens missed the extra point. On their fourth touchdown Jackson found Mark Andrews for an 18-yard touchdown. So they went for the 2-pt. conversion on their fourth touchdown and succeeded evening the score at 28.
Burrow led his team down the field and the Ravens defense once again helped them by getting multiple penalties. However, after Ja’Marr Chase caught the touchdown the Bengals went for the 2-pt. conversion but the pass was broken up. The Ravens kneeled on the ball and won the game 34-35.
Ravens Hang On For The Thursday Night Victory
Both of the games these teams have played this year were down to the wire. Although the Bengals have gone up 31-21 and 21-7 in the two games. However, the Ravens were able to overcome the deficits and hang on for the win. In the second half, the Ravens offense came alive and shook off the sloppiness that plagued them in the first half. However, the Ravens defense couldn’t contain Burrow and Chase and keenly felt the loss of Kyle Hamilton. But on the other hand the Bengals defense fell apart in the fourth quarter allowing three long touchdown drives.
This loss drops the Bengals to 4-6 and makes the road to the playoffs that much more difficult.
