Baltimore Ravens and Safety Eddie Jackson Have Reached Agreement on One-Year Deal

When building a championship caliber team you need a good mix of youth and veteran leadership. And that’s exactly the formula the Ravens are leaning into with their off-season roster moves. Their latest? The Baltimore Ravens and Safety Eddie Jackson have reached an agreement on a one-year deal.

30 year old Jackson was a fourth round draft pick of the Chicago Bears back in 2017. And since then has proven at times to be one of the top safeties in the game; reaching the Pro Bowl in 2018 and 2019. But unfortunately, a couple of injuries have affected his career. The Bears ended up releasing Eddie in February but now he has found a new home.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirms the agreement news. He reports,

A Ravens-type move: Two-time Pro-Bowl safety Eddie Jackson reached agreement today with Baltimore on a one-year deal, per sources. A safety with six defensive TDs for the Bears now will bring his talents to Baltimore.

Nevertheless, our sentiments about Jackson joining the Ravens, echo the thoughts of sports journalist Sarah Ellison. The Ravens successfully made the postseason, but was ultimately eliminated by the future 2024 Super Bowl champs, the Kansas City Chiefs. Their goal is to go all the way and get a title of their own, but they need a few more pieces to be even stronger and get past any playoffs “humps.”

But the Ravens are effective on both sides of the ball. In the 2023-2024 season they finish 13-4. With an explosive offense thanks to an O-line helmed by Lamar Jackson. Plus, a killer defense that Baltimore is always known for executing.

In fact the Ravens had this to say about their 2023 defense, “Baltimore’s 2023 defense must be in the conversation about the greatest of all time. The Ravens finished the regular season with a triple crown NFL record as the first team in history to lead the league in points allowed (16.5 per game), sacks (60), and takeaways (31).”

So then, adding a DAWG like Jackson definitely makes sense for this franchise. Ellison explains a few additional reasons why this move could be successful; she reveals,

“Eddie Jackson brings a lot to the table:

• 8-year vet, 30 years old
• 2 Pro Bowls, 1 All-Pro
• 15 career interceptions
• Can play both FS & SS
• Suffered Lisfranc injury in 2022
• Projected No. 3 safety in Baltimore
• Former Roquan Smith Bears teammate

A savvy pick-up by Eric DeCosta on the eve of training camp. Eddie will bring plenty of experience and versatility. He’s an important depth piece who will get plenty of snaps because the Ravens run plenty of 3-safety sets.

And most importantly, Eddie unlocks DC Zachary Orr’s ability to use All-Pro Kyle Hamilton as the ultimate chess piece that he is.”

Of course, there is some skepticism due to recent injuries. But if Eddie Jackson can stay healthy the Ravens could be very happy with their depth chart.
