Bad News On NFL Front For Jimmy Garoppolo and Deshaun Watson
Reports are out regarding two well-known NFL quarterbacks. And there is bad news on the NFL front for both Jimmy Garoppolo and Deshaun Watson. So let’s talk about Jimmy first. Adam Schefter posted on social media that the Las Vegas Raiders quarterback is being suspended two games for violating the NFL’s Performance Enhancing Substances Policy according to league sources. And adding insult to injury the Raiders also plan to release Garoppolo.
Apparently, Garoppolo used a prescribed medication without having a valid therapeutic use exemption from the league. He will not appeal the suspension and so will miss the first two games of the 2024 season. However, he will need to be signed with another team before the 2024 season begins. As the Raiders will likely release him before the new league year starts in mid-March. That would free up the $11.25 million roster bonus he would have received. In addition, the suspension could also void his $11.25 million base salary guarantee for the 2024.
The Raiders have no incentive to keep Garoppolo on their roster. He was brought on board for the 2023 season when Josh McDaniels was head coach. He was immediately benched by interim head coach Antonio Pierce. Pierce is officially the head coach now. He and his new staff members will likely look to find their franchise quarterback in the upcoming draft. Furthermore, some believe the Raiders may try to trade up from the No. 13 pick they currently hold to get a quarterback. With Aidan O’Connell and Brian Hoyer the only quarterbacks on the roster finding a quarterback is imperative.
Garoppolo is 32 and will be looking to sign with his third team in as many seasons. If he does sign with another team he will have to serve the two game suspension.

As for Deshaun Watson he could possibly face additional discipline from the league. Previously Watson faced several lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct during massage therapy sessions. Most of the cases were settled. However, some are still active and he may be called to testify again in one of those cases. Watson had been deposed for the case in June. But the deposition was cut short due to improper instructions from Watson’s attorney. Now he may have to give testimony in the case again.
Unless the claims are settled or dismissed, the remaining claims against Watson will eventually go to trial. He has already been suspended 11 games by the NFL for the allegations. Yet the league has not ruled out the possibility of further punishment. Especially since more evidence could emerge in the remaining cases.
