Atlanta Falcons Kicked Off Terminations Firing Raheem Morris And Terry Fontenot
It’s sadly that time of year again when coaching and managing heads start to roll. Last night one owner wasted no time in getting the “your walking papers” melee started. Atlanta Falcons’ owner Arthur Blank kicked off the terminations, firing head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot. The move came after the Falcons knocked off division rivals Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a 19-17 victory. Nevertheless, it was decided that a change was needed for the team.
A statement was released by Blank describing his reasons for the release of the two men:
“I have great personal affinity for both Raheem and Terry and appreciate their hard work and dedication to the Falcons, but I believe we need new leadership in these roles moving forward,” said Blank. “The decision to move away from people who represent the organization so well and have a shared commitment to the values that are important to the organization is not an easy one, but the results on the field have not met our expectations or those of our fans and leadership. I wish Raheem and Terry the absolute best in their future pursuits.”
Morris was working as the interim head coach for the team during the last 11 games of the 2020 season. He went to the Rams as the defensive coordinator from 2021 – 2023. He returned to Atlanta as the head coach in 2024 and was there for two years until last night’s firing. Morris had held other positions with the Falcons prior to being the interim head coach. And he had spent time with the Washington Redskins and prior to that he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he eventually became their head coach. Whereas general manager Terry Fontenot had spent many years with the New Orleans Saints prior to becoming the Falcons’ general manager in 2021.

Blank also wrote a letter to the Falcons’ fans with further explanation on the change. You can click here to read the full letter. He describes his disappointment in the results that have been produced and a desire to compete for championships year after year. He also mentioned that Greg Beadles has been elevated from president to president and CEO of the Atlanta Falcons, effective today, succeeding Rich McKay.
According to the team’s website, the searches for the head coach and general manager roles for the Falcons will begin immediately. ZRG Partners will assist on the head coach search and Sportsology Group will assist on the general manager role search. No timeline has been set for completion of either search, but they will occur concurrently.
