Atlanta Falcons Finalizing Deal to Hire Kevin Stefanski as New Head Coach
They brought him back for a second interview and then refused to let him leave without locking him down. The Atlanta Falcons are finalizing a deal to hire Kevin Stefanski as their new head coach. The two-time NFL Coach of the Year flew to Atlanta on Saturday, and now will stay on to take over the Falcons’ head coaching job.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on the head coach hiring by revealing, “Sources: Falcons are giving new head coach Kevin Stefanski a five-year contract. Both Matt Ryan and Kevin Stefanski have Philadelphia ties. Ryan grew up in the Philly suburbs and attended William Penn Charter before starring at Boston College. Stefanski is a Philly native who played at St. Joseph’s Prep and stayed home for college at Penn. The Falcons have now hired Matt Ryan as President of Football and Kevin Stefanski as their head coach. They now turn their attention to hiring a new GM. The Falcons have not been to the playoffs since the 2017 season and are now turning to two-time Coach of the Year Kevin Stefanski to help guide a new era.”
Atlanta Falcons Finalizing Deal to Hire Kevin Stefanski as New Head Coach
On Saturday evening new Falcons president Matt Ryan released a brief statement on new Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski, who was fired by the Cleveland Browns less than two weeks ago. Ryan states,
“We’re thrilled to land a lead-by-example leader in Kevin Stefanski who brings a clear vision for his staff, our team and a closely aligned focus on building this team on fundamentals, toughness and active collaboration with every area of the football operation,” said Ryan. “Coach Stefanski is a team-first leader who puts a premium on accountability for everyone and a player-driven culture. His experience in Cleveland and Minnesota has given him a great understanding of the importance of working in sync with scouting, personnel and the rest of the football staff to maximize talent across the roster and in doing everything possible to put our players in the best position to succeed. Kevin’s style of leadership, combined with the staff and infrastructure in place here in Atlanta, gives us confidence in our shared vision for the team and we are excited to have him as the leader of our football team.”
As mentioned previously, the Falcons kicked off their second round of head coach interviews on Saturday by bringing former Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski to Atlanta for another round of talks. However, the organization decided no further meetings were needed. They had successfully found their guy.
Kevin Stefanski Hired as Falcons New Head Coach
Therefore, now we get to witness the Stefanski era as it commences in the ATL. And we will soon see how he utilizes the likes of Bijan Robinson and Drake London.
Nonetheless, outside of Raheem Morris, Kevin Stefanski is the first Falcons hire for head coach since Dan Reeves who had prior NFL head coaching experience. Reeves, hired in 1997, quickly revitalized the struggling Falcons team; going from 3-13 in 1997 to a 14-2 record in 1998. And guiding Atlanta to their first-ever Super Bowl appearance. The Falcons no doubt are hoping for the same success with Kevin.
Furthermore, Arthur M. Blank is thrilled to have Kevin Stefanski join his franchise. He says: “In Kevin Stefanski, we have found a coach with the right vision, focus and demeanor to lead our team into the future. From all our research and a wonderful visit with him tonight, I believe he is the right coach to take the talent on our roster to a new level and to work with Matt, our new GM and all our football personnel to build on the strong foundation in place and take it to new heights.”
