Astros Agree to Deal to Reacquire Carlos Correa in Trade With Twins

There’s been a few reunions already before the trade deadline. And it looks like we are getting one more before things are all said and done. On Thursday, it was confirmed that the Astros are have agreed to a deal to reacquire Carlos Correa in a trade with the Twins.

Just a few seasons ago Correa was a part of a free agency grouping that included the Yankees Aaron Judge. Correa at one point was deemed to become a member of the San Francisco Giants; before the deal fell through and Carlos found himself with the Minnesota ball club. Now, after this whirlwind, Correa is returning back to Houston.

Jeff Passan who has been busy since midnight provided a brief reporting of this trade; confirming the rumors that had been rapidly swirling for the last 48 hours. Passan reveals, “BREAKING: The Minnesota Twins are trading shortstop Carlos Correa to the Houston Astros, sources tell ESPN.”

A source close to the Astros organization confirmed that the infielder has agreed to play third base. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale backed up the source’s intel stating, “Carlos Correa informed the Astros that he would welcome playing third base with Pena remaining at shortstop.”

Correa’s time in Minnesota was rocky and full of injuries. However, Carlos is hoping to regain form in Houston. Sometimes “going home” or a change in scenery can really do an athlete some good. Carlos Correa’s first game back with the Astros will be as a third baseman at Fenway Park against Alex Bregman. Furthermore, Correa, who spent his first seven seasons with the Astros, waived his no trade clause to rejoin the team he won the World Series with in 2017.

Nevertheless, Correa wasn’t interested in just being moved anywhere. He had one destination in mind, and one ONLY. Correa told MLB.com on Thursday,

“I had some conversations with the front office in Minnesota, and we were not moving [the direction] I thought we were after making the playoffs [in 2023], and they agreed with me that it was time to move me. I let them know there was only one team I would allow that to happen.”

Well both sides have gotten their wish. Carlos has been moved by the Twins and Correa is back with the Astros. Houston’s third baseman Isaac Paredes could miss the rest of the season with a serious hamstring injury; which made the trade for Correa make sense. The Astros also needed a lefty in their arsenal and they secured that too. Houston filled their need for a left-handed hitter in a deal acquiring outfielder Jesus Sanchez from the Miami Marlins.
