All 1-Seeds Make Final Four With Rematch Between UConn and South Carolina
March Madness is truly living up to its name. From blowouts to clutch games, the action has been intense and thrilling. But now in women’s basketball only four schools remain in the tournament. All 1-Seeds make the Final Four with a rematch between UConn and South Carolina. And UCLA will face off against Texas.
This season is certainly one for the books. There is so much history being made in women’s college hoops; especially among the Final Four teams. Here’s a quick cheat sheet to keep it all straight:
- South Carolina and Texas are still dancing: This is the first time in NCAA Women’s Tournament history that two teams reached the Final Four with every win by 20 points
- For the 5th time in Women’s NCAA Tournament history ALL Four #1 Seeds have reached the Final Four (Others: 1989, 2012, 2015, 2018). A wilder note on this: Not a single one had a game decided by 10 points or fewer on their path to Phoenix
- UConn is the only school in both the Men’s and Women’s Final Four
- History is repeating: For the second time in tournament history, the Final Four will have the same teams as the previous year. (The other instance: 1995-96)
Women’s basketball journalist, Alexa Philippou commented on the dominance of the Final Four teams. She states,
“This year’s Elite Eight games were decided by an average of 23.0 points per game, the largest average margin of victory in the round all-time.
A testament to how the top four teams were, as they’ve been all season long, a tier above the rest.”

While these upcoming games will be CINEMA. It would be nice in the future to see additional schools get into the mix. Seeing the same schools dominate the tourney could potentially lead to less fan interest and support. But for now, this is the bed that has been built and made.
Nonetheless, the UConn versus Gamecocks big-time rematch is going down this Friday. You will NOT want to miss this one if you love college hoops. The Huskies will face South Carolina in the Final Four on Friday at 7 PM ET on ESPN.
