After Suffering Dislocated Elbow Commanders Quarterback Jayden Daniels Gets Some Good News

The injury looked so gruesome on television seeing his arm out of place. It immediately made people think he would need surgery and his season would be over. But of course we always hope for the best while expecting the worse. But positive reports have come out today about the extent of his injury. After suffering a dislocated elbow Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels gets some good news.

After having a stellar rookie performance last season, expectations for Daniels were through the rough for this season. However, things have not gone as well as the team would have hoped. Currently sitting at 3-6, the Commanders are on a four-game losing streak. Partially because Daniels has already missed two games with a knee sprain and one game with a hamstring injury. So seeing him go down with the elbow injury in Week 9 was a complete downer for the whole team.

After having it horribly twisted Daniels’ arm was immediately put in a stabilizing air cast and thereafter was ruled out of the game. Things looked very bad for him. But today NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport posted a positive report. He wrote:

“Sources: #Commanders QB Jayden Daniels’ MRI and medical opinions revealed positive news, as his dislocated left elbow is not as serious as originally anticipated. There was no ligament damage & he won’t need surgery. Daniels will not be immediately placed on Injured Reserve.”

“This was a lengthy and complicated process including multiple opinions, with Jayden Daniels’ speaking with some of the nation’s experts. And the result was as positive as can be. Daniels’ will be reevaluated during the bye week and multiple factors are at play. But good news.”

So perhaps Daniels will be able to return later this season. But should he be rushed back?

This scenario played out with Robert Griffin III (RGIII). He played for the team when they were still known as the Washington Redskins. He too suffered multiple injuries. In particular, he was rushed back from a knee injury for the 2013 playoffs and ended up suffering a much more serious injury. Those injuries likely changed the trajectory of his career in a negative way.

At 3-6 is there really a need to bring Daniels back this season as they are not likely to make the playoffs? According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter:

“Commanders do not expect to place QB Jayden Daniels on injured reserve, per sources. They will reevaluate his injury during the bye week.”

Daniels will not play this Sunday against the Detroit Lions or in Week 11 against the Miami Dolphins in Madrid. If he were placed on injured reserve he couldn’t come back before Week 15. So the question remains, is there any need to rush Daniels back? Or will the Commanders heed the lesson of what happened with RGIII? We’ll see what happens after the Week 12 bye.
