After Opening Weekend Only Five Teams Remain Undefeated in 2026 MLB Season

Well, that was fast. There are 30 teams that make up the league. However, already the “whom shall remain undefeated the longest” race is taking shape expeditiously. After the conclusion of the opening weekend only five teams remain undefeated during the 2026 MLB season.

The short list of teams remaining undefeated make perfect sense; especially, when you look at last season’s postseason. Four of the remaining teams were in the playoffs. With two of the organizations actually appearing in the World Series. A championship series that did huge viewership numbers for Major League Baseball.

The 2025 World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays was a massive global draw, averaging 16.1 million viewers in the U.S. (most-watched since 2017) and 7.5 million in Canada. Game 7 was particularly massive, averaging 51 million viewers across the U.S., Canada, and Japan, making it the highest-viewed MLB game in 34 years.

Nonetheless, here are the MLB franchises that are still flawless, just about five days into the season:

  • Los Angeles Dodgers (last season’s World Series Champion who has now won two titles consecutively)
  • Toronto Blue Jays
  • Milwaukee Brewers
  • New York Yankees
  • Miami Marlins

The Fish Keep Swimming

The one outlier in this year’s undefeated grouping are the Miami Marlins. The Marlins have been missing from the postseason for a couple of years now. Not many, but a couple.

The Miami Marlins last made the MLB playoffs in 2023. They qualified as a National League Wild Card team with an 84-78 record. However, they were swept in two games by the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL Wild Card Series.

But that’s the past and this is the present. It’s great to see the Marlins having a successful start and it’ll be fun to see if they can keep it up over the long season.

The Marlins are 3-0 to start a season for the first time since 2009. And they got it done by sweeping the Colorado Rockies. Furthermore, the Marlins’ 3-0 start also ties the second-best start in the Franchise’s history (1997). It marks the third time they have swept their first series of a season (last, 2009, when the team started 4-0).

Lastly, RHP Pete Fairbanks is the second pitcher in Marlins history to record a save in each of his first two appearances with the club. Joining RHP Armando Benítez, who recorded a save in each of his first six appearances with the club from April 6-15, 2004.
