After His 2,000th Career Hit Is Padres’ Manny Machado Headed To Baseball Hall of Fame?
He’s been a fan favorite ever since he joined the San Diego Padres. Before his death, former owner Peter Seidler, made sure that he would be with the team for a long time. In February 2023 he was signed to an 11-year, $350 million contract extension. Keeping him in San Diego through the 2033 season. And his play this season has got his name included with some elite groups of players. So after his 2,000th career hit last night, is the Padres’ Manny Machado headed to the Baseball Hall of Fame?
Although the Padres suffered a 6-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks it was still a big night for Machado. It was during the fourth inning that the third baseman hit a single off of pitcher Zac Gallen on Monday night to snag hit number 2,000. Prior to that he had a first-inning single for hit No. 1,999, then launched an eighth-inning home run for No. 2,001. And speaking of home runs Machado hit another milestone. Last month, he reached the 350-homer mark in San Francisco.
Although he celebrated his 33rd birthday on Sunday, he reached both numbers in what’s technically his age-32 season. Only 11 players in MLB history had reached 350 homers and 2,000 hits in their age-32 season or earlier. Of those 11 players, eight of them are already in the Hall of Fame. They are:
Hank Aaron, Jimmie Foxx, Lou Gehrig, Ken Griffey Jr., Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Mel Ott and Frank Robinson. The other three are Miguel Cabrera and Albert Pujols (who are not yet eligible) and Alex Rodriguez. As we said Machado has gotten himself included with some of baseball’s greatest players.

And what does Machado think about all of the great things he has done so far this season? He commented the following:
“That’s a lot of hits,” Machado said. “A lot of ups and downs, a lot of struggles. It took a lot to get here. So I’m very grateful for it. I wish it would’ve come a little earlier and maybe not have stressed out a little bit too much. But it definitely makes it a lot better doing it in front of the home crowd.”
So having the homers and the hits has Machado done enough to earn his place in the Hall of Fame? Well if he can get 3,000 hits before his career ends he just might make it in. But the good news is he still has plenty of time to hit that next milestone. Congrats, Man-ny, Man-ny, Man-ny!
