After Being Released By Broncos What’s Next For Russell Wilson?

Yesterday the Denver Broncos put out a statement to say that they were moving on from their quarterback. So now after being released by the Denver Broncos we wonder what’s next for Russell Wilson. People are calling the trade for Wilson the worst of all time. I guess you could say that from the Broncos point of view. They gave up quite a bit to acquire Wilson including the 9th, 40th, and 145th picks in the 2022 draft. Along with the 5th and 37th picks of the 2023 draft. However, Wilson got over $124 million in cash so it was a great deal for him. And now he has the flexibility to go play for another team for the veteran minimum if chooses to do so.

Although his first year playing in Denver was bad he bounced back in his second year. However, Sean Payton was brought in as head coach and the two clearly didn’t see eye to eye. There were times when Payton was yelling at Wilson on the sideline, or speaking negatively of him in press conferences. Yet Wilson kept things calm and professional. Nonetheless, the GM and Payton seemed to take a shot at Wilson in their statement:

“As we move forward, we are focused on building the strongest team possible for the 2024 season and beyond. We are excited to improve this offseason and will have the flexibility to get better through the draft and free agency.”

Saying you want to improve right after shoving Wilson out the door implies he was the problem. But they will need more than a quarterback to improve their team. And according to Pro Football Talk, Denver will have a salary cap charge of $35.4 million in 2024. And in 2025 another salary cap charge of $53.6 million.

Tell me you don’t like him without telling me you don’t like him! Therefore, how great would it be if Wilson helped another team get to the Super Bowl and win. If he plays like I believe he is capable of playing then it is entirely possible for him to elevate another team. Perhaps the Vikings would be interested if they can’t work out a deal with Kirk Cousins. Another possible landing spot could be the Atlanta Falcons. Or if he is interested in taking on the role of backup quarterback and mentor, the Tennessee Titans could be an interesting option.

In any case, I hope to see Russell Wilson playing in the 2024 season. After all he did say he wants to win two more Super Bowls.
