Adolis Garcia- His Historic Climb to World Series Glory
Adolis Garcia is a bad, bad man on the diamond. His defense is elite. He’s a clutch hitter that often obliterates a ball; sending it deep and out of any stadium he happens to be playing in.
However, Garcia’s ascension to the top of the MLB ranks and to a World Series; is story marked by disappointment, frustration, determination and of course, grit. Garcia’s success is not by mere luck or accident. The guy was relentless and never stopped trying to be the best.
And in 2023, Adolis proves why he is HIM. During the regular season García set career highs in home runs (39), RBIs (107) and OPS (.836). Moreover, around the halfway point of the season, Adolis also makes his second All-Star team.
It’s clear as day that 2023 is special for Adolis. However, while some guys thrive during the season, some completely fall off a cliff in the postseason. Suddenly bats go cold, offense is nonexistent and the lights are just too bright.
Yet, for García, it was just another day on the job. During the 2023 playoffs; the ALCS MVP, is a one-man unstoppable force, hitting .323/.382/.726 with eight home runs and 22 RBI in 15 games. Those 22 RBI are the record for a single postseason. Can you say… BEAST MODE?!

Nevertheless, Adolis rise to the top is arduous and full of twists and turns. If you are unfamiliar with Garcia’s history and path to being a superstar. Danny Vietti, CBS SPORTS social media manager; gives a very nice, quick overview. He reveals,
“Adolis García went to play baseball in Japan at 23 years old. While Cubans are forbidden to play in the US, they are allowed to go to Japan. The bulk of their salaries, however, must return to the Cuban government. García never had any intentions of returning to Cuba.
On his flight back from Japan, Adolis had a layover in Paris. Rather than getting on his flight back home, he got on a plane headed for the Dominican Republic, where he would later reunite with his wife. He established residency and became an international free agent.
Feb. 2017, García signed with the Cardinals for $2.5 million with a non-roster invitation to Spring Training. He displayed plenty of power, but there were concerns with his contact rate, or lack there of. 3 years after defecting from Cuba, he was designated for assignment.
Dec. 2019, the Cardinals traded García to the Rangers for cash considerations. A year later, the Rangers designated him for assignment. All 29 other teams passed on him on waivers. He was outrighted and given a non-roster invitation to Spring Training.
After starting the season in the minors, García was called up to the Rangers on April 13, 2021. And from then on, he never looked back. He won Rookie of the Month in his first true big league opportunity and made the 2021 AL All-Star team in his first season.
In 2023, he had 39 HR, 107 RBI, and named an All-Star once again. And in the ALCS against the defending champion Astros, García etched himself into the record books. He hit a HR in 4 straight games, set the MLB record for most RBI in a series (15), and was voted ALCS MVP.”
Final Thoughts
What a story! Yet, isn’t that what sports is all about? Talented guys with strong work ethic, doing the impossible in order to be able to play the game they love at an elite level. To quote a line from Moneyball, “How can you not be romantic about baseball?”
It is clear that Adolis had this very great dream and it came true. However, it was not just handed to him; he put the effort in every single day. It’s clear that regardless of challenges or roadblocks; he never gave up and pushed with all his might and now he’s hoisting up a World Series trophy; the first in Texas Rangers franchise history. Truly magnificent.
