Adam Thielen Is Going Home After the Carolina Panthers Traded With The Minnesota Vikings

He’s going back to where it all started. Not only is he going back to his hometown but he is going back to the team that originally drafted him. And he and his family couldn’t be happier about it. Adam Thielen is going home after the Carolina Panthers traded with the Minnesota Vikings. Today the team announced that they executed a trade with the Carolina Panthers to acquire wide receiver Adam Thielen.

According to Adam Schefter:

“Homecoming: Panthers and Vikings are finalizing a trade for WR Adam Thielen to return to Minnesota, sources tell ESPN. The trade: Vikings get Thielen, a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick. Panthers get a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 fourth-round pick. Thielen starred for the Vikings from 2013-2022. Now he returns.”

“Adam Thielen was born in Minnesota, went to college at Minnesota State, made the Vikings as an undrafted free agent, spent 9 seasons there… and now he’s back with his hometown team.”

Thielen is the ultimate “local boy makes good” story. He went from being an undrafted free agent to ranking third on the Vikings receptions leaderboard. In his nine seasons with the Vikings he established himself as one of the NFL’s top receivers. Thielen put up 534 catches for 6,682 yards and 55 touchdowns, averaging 12.5 yards per reception. He had two of his best seasons in 2017 and 2018 in which he surpassed the 1,000-receiving-yard mark and earned Pro Bowls after each season.

Additionally in 2018, he established the NFL record for most consecutive games with 100-plus receiving yards to start a season with eight straight games. While with the Panthers in 2023 and 2024, Thielen started all 27 games he played and recorded 151 catches for 1,629 yards and nine touchdowns.

Returning to Minnesota will also be good for Thielen because he is familiar with both the head coach and quarterback. He has good knowledge of head coach Kevin O’Connell’s offensive system. And as reported by ESPN, Thielen has also spent time with quarterback J.J. McCarthy. Each of the past two summers he has been part of a group of Minnesota-based NFL players who work out together before training camp.

Thielen’s return also comes at a good time because of the thinned out wide receiver’s room. Jordan Addison is facing a three-game suspension and Jalen Nailor has missed practice time of late with a hand injury. Free agent addition Rondale Moore has been lost for the season due to a knee injury in the Vikings preseason opener against the Texans. But on the bright side, Thielen will likely start along superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson in Week 1.

So we wish Adam a hearty congratulations on returning to his roots!
