Aces Finalizing First WNBA Million Dollar Contract with Jackie Young

The big checks are finally going to start getting cut. And it is no surprise that Las Vegas is getting the financial party started. The Aces are finalizing the first WNBA million dollar contract with Jackie Young. Expected to be a one-year deal at $1.19 million, the standard max.

Young is one third of the Vegas big three currently terrorizing the league. She’s been effective on both ends of the court and has earned every cent of her huge payday. In case you missed it or need a reminder of Jackie’s pro basketball tenure thus far:

Jackie Young in 7 Seasons

— 3x WNBA Champ
— 4x All-Star
— 2x All-WNBA
— 2022 MIP (the Most Improved Player)

One can easily see why Las Vegas was eager to keep Young within the organization. Furthermore, as we mentioned at the outset, it is not remotely surprising that the Aces are the franchise getting the ball started with players getting lucrative contracts. Owner Mark Davis has wanted to see his players earn more for some time.

In the past Mark Davis defended a, now-ended, two-year deal where the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) paid each player (12 players total) $100,000 annually, totaling over $1 million annually. The 2024-2025 sponsorships, meant for promotion, triggered WNBA investigations over salary cap circumvention concerns, but Davis denied wrongdoing.

Truth be told, Davis did nothing wrong but believe that these sponsorships were a positive. And that the women of the WNBA deserved better pay. It was the LVCVA, not the Aces team directly, that paid each player $100,000.

Well, now under the new CBA, Mark Davis and all the other WNBA owners can hand out bigger paydays. And we are going to be seeing a lot of them in the future. Nevertheless, ESPN’s Alexa Phillippou confirmed the news of the Las Vegas Aces finalizing Jackie Young’s deal stating,

“Breaking: The Las Vegas Aces are finalizing an agreement for Jackie Young to return to Vegas, sources told ESPN. Expected to be a one-year deal at the regular max ($1.19 million).

One step closer toward the Aces retaining their Big Three.

One of the best two-way players in the league, Young was expected to be a coveted free agent this offseason.

I am told she did not end up taking any meetings with other teams, a huge win for Vegas.”

So then, even though the “W” rumor mill was saying we could see Young sign elsewhere. Obviously, such reports proved to be outright falsehoods. Jackie is staying put with the defending champions. Congratulations to Young, Mark Davis and the Aces organization on making WNBA history.
