Aaron Rodgers Contemplates Retirement While Open to All Opportunities

As the NFL draft looms and teams look to the future possible stars of tomorrow. One veteran is still circling to be in the mix. However, as of yet he has not found a new home. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers contemplates retirement while being open to all opportunities.

Rodgers went on the Pat McAfee show to air his thoughts on his current career situation. He states,

“Listen, this entire time I haven’t felt like I owed somebody any decision at some point. … I’ve been upfront with them about that. If you need to move on, call me, by all means. … There’s been no deadline. And yeah, I’ve talked to Mike (Tomlin) many times.

I am trying to be open to everything and not specifically attached to anything when it comes to this decision. I’m not holding anybody hostage – I really want to emphasize that. … I’m just going through a lot in my personal life that has to take precedent at this point. … At the same time, I want to keep the lines of communication open.”

Furthermore, Rodgers in the interview goes on to say that it is not about money. He just wants an opportunity to play and he has made this crystal clear to any team he has been in contact with as of late. Aaron mentions,

“I’ve had a lot of great conversations with a lot of teams..

I’ve been up front with all of them..

I told every single one of the teams I talked to that it wasn’t about the money and I would play for $10M.”

Nevertheless, staying a Jet was never an option. The organization had willingly given just about anything Rodgers needed or wanted. The result? Like what, five or six wins?

After two seasons, it is a bit much to expect a franchise to still be gung-ho about things. Especially, with an aging quarterback who is now in his forties. Well, New York made sure to let him know that he would not be in their future plans. Instead of a cold phone call, they invited Rodgers to be told in person.

However, Aaron tells Pat that he still didn’t like how things were handled. Rodgers recalls,

“Listen, that was an interesting two years to say the least. I figured that when I flew across country to my dime there would be a conversation. The confusing thing to me is I went out there, I meet with the coach, we start talking … he runs out of the room. I’m like that’s strange. Then he comes back with the GM and I’m like all right. So we sit down and I think we’re going to have this long conversation and 20 seconds in and he (Glenn) goes: You sure you wanna play football? And I said yes and he said “we’re going in another direction.”

As one can see, both parties are moving on. One is clear on their direction and rebuild. The other is still in search of a new opportunity. Over the next days, weeks and 4 months we will see what Rodgers decides to do. To retire or not.
