A New Chapter Begins Between Seattle Mariners And Nintendo
We spy Switch 2 on that sleeve! What does this all mean?! Well, while gamers everywhere unite to dissect today’s announcement and dream of Mario Super Sluggers. One thing was officially established today… a new chapter begins between the Seattle Mariners and Nintendo.
This is a great, fun partnership. Gaming and the MLB continue to merge in awesome ways. Like Shohei Ohtani being a part of Fortnite.
Nevertheless, this Nintendo/Seattle combo isn’t new. There is a long history between the Seattle Mariners and gaming giant Nintendo of America. You see, the team was actually purchased by Nintendo of America in 1992. CEO Hiroshi Yamauchi held a 49 percent share of the franchise; which is interesting because he had never been to a ball game before. However, he wanted to thank the city for the role they played in his company’s success. Therefore, Nintendo owned the team until April 27, 2016 when they sold their controlling stake to First Avenue Entertainment.
While they have retained a 10 percent ownership share of the team over the years. There haven’t been as many events or crossover projects like in the past. BUT… now the two enterprises are opening a new era between the Seattle Mariners and Nintendo; as the gaming giant will be exclusively featured on Seattle’s jersey sleeves during the 2025 season.
Nintendo made a post on their x.com account regarding their new partnership with the Mariners. They state:
“Play ball
We’re thrilled to share we’re expanding our long-standing relationship with the Mariners and will be featured on their jersey sleeve this season!
See it for the first time on Opening Day, March 27th!”
Nice. So then, Nintendo will become the team’s first-ever official jersey sleeve partner. The company will be featured on the Mariners jersey sleeve for all regular season and postseason games. Nintendo’s “racetrack” logo will appear on the Mariners’ home jerseys. And the Switch 2 logo will appear on the team’s away jerseys. According to the Mariners, that will make them the first in the MLB to feature different marks for home and away games.
The team is thrilled to be entering into this new partnership adding to their long-standing relationship. The Seattle ball club mentions,
“Nintendo and the Mariners have been inextricably linked since 1992,” Seattle Mariners President of Business Operations Kevin Martinez said. “Now, each time the Mariners take the field, our jersey sleeves will help serve as a reminder of all that Nintendo of America has done for the Northwest community and the team. There isn’t a better partnership in Major League Baseball. We are grateful for our incredible relationship with Nintendo.”

The fact that the away jersey will feature the Switch 2 logo has us all speculating as well. Is this an indication of when the video game console will be released? Industry experts and content creators have been working feverishly to try and get a release date. It was back in January when Nintendo teased their audience with a first-look trailer for Switch 2. The latest release date speculation comes courtesy of careful analysis by YouTuber ThunderStash Gaming, who confidently concludes that the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on 15 May.
How great is it that Nintendo can whip their fans into a further frenzy by seeing their logo on the Mariners’ sleeves? CINEMA. Nevertheless, they are also cementing an enduring relationship with an excellent marketing ploy. We stan, and may the Mariners play like they are Mario; hopping over any obstacle or challenge this season to successfully gain the prize… of postseason glory.
