Canada Beats the USA in the Four Nations Face-Off Final
America was in it to the very end. The tide kept changing this entire final. But when all was said and done, Canada beats the USA in the Four Nations Face-Off Final. Canada and the United States both held a lead at some point in this game, and the pace was dizzying.
Seriously, what did we just witness?! That was an insane performance of excellence. A hockey match for the ages.
Coming into Thursday night’s bout, we already knew we were getting high intensity on the ice. During these teams’ last meetup they couldn’t even get through the first 60 seconds without brawling. Not one, but several fights broke out between players and set the tone that would continue to permeate between the USA and Canada.
Furthermore, all the country tension and this Final lived up to all the hype. Both teams fought like rent was due yesterday. At the end of regulation the USA and Canada was TIED 2-2! It was do or die time baby.
How would a winner be decided? What are the rules for the 4 Nations tournament? As sports reporter, Frank Seravalli explains,
“It’s playoff style OT, 5-on-5 for 20 minutes – repeat as many times as necessary to produce a winner. As it should be. Appointment viewing. If you’re not near a TV, find one.”
In overtime both teams gave it EVERYTHING. It was like… Canada’s goalie (Jordan Binnington) grew 6 more additional arms. The man wasn’t letting ANYTHING get past him.
Moreover, the USA did have chances to put the game away but could not seem to capitalize. In the end their defense would make a very critical mistake. Leave Connor McDavid relatively open. In the flurry, how this happens is wild. It could have been because Connor had a somewhat quiet night on the ice so focus mainly went to other players; however, at the end of this thrilling matchup he made his presence known.

Connor McDavid is left all alone in the slot, and Mitch Marner finds him for the game-winning goal. Thanks to the assist from Marner, Connor McDavid scored the game winner to become a national hero and hockey legend. Canada wins, 3-2. And by the way, Nathan MacKinnon and Sam Bennett also scored, Marner had two assists, and Jordan Binnington made 31 saves for Canada, including six in overtime.
Nevertheless, it’s safe to say hockey fans are already wanting the rematch. And they’ll get it next year. The 2026 Winter Olympics, the XXV Olympic Winter Games and commonly known as Milano Cortina 2026, is scheduled to take place from the 6th to the 22nd of February 2026 at sites across Lombardy and Northeast Italy. But the date you will want to mark down is February 11th. That’s when the men’s ice hockey competition at the 2026 Olympics will begin. Be READY.
