With Saints New Hire All NFL Head Coaching Positions Are Filled
As always, every season head coaches are terminated and successors are chosen. This year was no different as seven head coaching vacancies existed. And just today the last of the vacancies was eliminated. With the New Orleans Saints new hire, all NFL head coaching positions are filled. The Saints announced today that they hired Kellen Moore, former NFL quarterback and most recently the offensive coordinator of Super Bowl LIX champions Philadelphia Eagles. Moore is set to become the 19th head coach in franchise history.
Moore spent six years in the NFL, primarily as a backup quarterback from 2012-2018. After he retired in 2018, he went from being a Dallas Cowboys’ backup quarterback to their quarterback coach. In January 2019 he was promoted to the offensive coordinator. From there he joined the Los Angeles Chargers as their offensive coordinator in January 2023. After that he was named the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles on February 5, 2024. Now about one year later he is the head coach of the New Orleans Saints. He’s made a lot of progress in just seven years.
Team owner Gayle Benson expressed her thoughts on what Moore brings to the team:
“At the start of the interview process, it was important to find a head coach who was the right fit for the New Orleans Saints organization,” said Owner Gayle Benson. “Through the search process, it became clear that Kellen is the right person to help us re-establish a winning program and culture that our fans are accustomed to and have come to expect. I would also like to thank Darren Rizzi for his service as interim coach and leading our team this past season. I am truly grateful to him.”
Speaking of winning, Moore played quarterback for Boise State in college when he defeated the Fresno State Bulldogs on October 7, 2011. Derek Carr was the Bulldogs quarterback and is currently the Saints quarterback. It’s a small world.

Under Moore, the Eagles rushing and passing attacks were improved. Philadelphia rushed for a single-season club record 3,048 yards (sixth-best in NFL history) and finished second in the league in rushing yards per game (179.3). The 2024 Eagles were only the second team in NFL history to rush for 3,000-plus yards and at least 25 (29) touchdowns. The Eagles passing attack also flourished under Moore’s tutelage, setting a club record with a 103.4 passer rating, led by quarterback Jalen Hurts’ career-high 103.7, ranked fifth-best in the league.
New Orleans finished the 2024 season with a 5-12 record, so Moore has his work cut out for him. But he appears to be up to the challenge.
