When a legend speaks, most tend to listen. And this week one of the greatest to ever shoot a basketball had a strong take on Golden State’s big trade. On social media, former NBA player and Hall of Famer, Magic Johnson heralded why he thinks the Warriors acquiring Jimmy Butler during the NBA trade frenzy is a solid and good move.
GSW and other teams had been wilding out for days working to strengthen their team rosters for the big push towards the playoffs. Yet, NO move dropped the mic like the Lakers and Mavericks. Dallas and Los Angeles had NBA fans shook and mouths dropping as they sent Luka Doncic packing to LA; and Anthony Davis to Mavs country.
However, the Warriors were still busy working the phones as well. They were trying to make a reunion between them and Kevin Durant possible. However, talks fizzled, especially with KD supposedly stating that he was not interested in returning to the Bay.
Nevertheless, Golden State presses on. An early name in the mix reappears… Jimmy Butler. With some heavy negotiating the Warriors get an agreement done and get their guy. Butler is a Warrior joining up with Steph Curry and Draymond Green.
While fans weighed in expeditiously. With some feeling that this decision isn’t a big needle mover. Magic Johnson feels much differently. And why not listen to a man that has won 15 total championships during his career; one in college, five as an NBA player, and nine as an owner. Obviously, he knows a thing or two about winning.

Nevertheless, regarding Golden State getting Butler, Magic says,
“Jimmy Butler going to the Golden State Warriors is an awesome trade for the Warriors and Miami Heat for different reasons. With the addition of Jimmy Butler Golden State becomes a more explosive team and Steph gets a running mate that give the Warriors scoring, defense and toughness. The best thing about Butler is that he always takes his game to another level in the Playoffs.”
Good defense is definitely something that the Warriors need going forward. If Johnson proves to be right in that aspect; the Warriors could find themselves finally righting the ship this season. Regardless, with all the various trades that went down it will be interesting to see which teams improved enough to get themselves into the postseason.
