Caitlin Clark is Passing on the NBA All-Star Special 3-Point Contest

Of course, it would have been fun. For months rumors have swirled about a possible three point contest involving the WNBA as well as NBA players. The mini battle would take place during the National Basketball Association’s All-Star weekend. However, the W’s biggest star is turning down this offer in order to help continue to grow the women’s league. On Wednesday, it was revealed that Caitlin Clark is passing on the NBA All-Star Special 3-Point Contest; which would have gone down in a matter of days. All-Star weekend is scheduled for Feb. 14-16, with the main event held at Chase Center, home of the Warriors.

While this shootout would have fed sports fans well; now all we can think of is what could have been. Many wanted to see a Steph Curry, Caitlin Clark, Sabrina Ionescu and Klay Thompson combination. Seriously, could you imagine that? Instant ratings.

Nevertheless, you have to respect Clark’s commitment and dedication to utilizing her star power and talent to help continue building the WNBA. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Caitlin’s decision. He states,

“Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark will not participate in NBA All-Star special 3-point shootout in San Francisco and ‘wants her first three-point contest to be at WNBA All-Star in Indianapolis this summer,’ her representatives at Excel Sports said today.”

Well, this doesn’t mean such a contest mixing NBA versus WNBA couldn’t still happen. There is always Indianapolis later in the year. Regarding such a thought, ESPN’s Maria Marino adds,

“Kind of a brilliant move by Caitlin Clark, saving her 3-point contest debut for WNBA All Star. Maybe Steph or other NBA players can join in Indy if the leagues want another crossover.”
