Aaron Glenn Tapped To Be Head Coach For New York Jets
The run on Detroit Lions’ coaches continues with the latest head coach hiring. Not only is he a former employee of the team but is also a former player for the organization. According to the latest reports, Aaron Glenn has been tapped to be the new head coach for the New York Jets. Glenn was formerly the defensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions. Prior to that Glenn was not only the 12th overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft for the Jets. But he was also a personnel scout for the team and will now be their head coach.
“The Jets are giving new head coach Aaron Glenn a five-year deal, per sources, contractually tying him to the organization through the 2029 season,” per Adam Schefter. Owner Woody Johnson made the following statement:
“I’m excited to welcome Aaron Glenn home as the head coach of the New York Jets,” said Jets Chairman Robert Wood Johnson. “Aaron earned this opportunity through almost three decades of NFL experience – ten with us as a player and a scout. He brings tremendous leadership skills and the vision this organization needs to be successful. I am thrilled to see him lead this team.”
An exhaustive search was made as the Jets interviewed 16 candidates for the head coach position. However, things unfolded quickly for Glenn. He met face-to-face with Jets brass Tuesday morning and a framework for a deal was agreed upon on Wednesday.

Glenn spoke about this opportunity as reported by the team’s website:
“This place is special for me,” Glenn said. “From the time I was drafted and practiced on Long Island, to the time I came back as a scout in New Jersey, this organization has always felt like home. I’m thankful to Mr. Johnson for this opportunity. To our players, prepare to be coached with everything we have. That is our responsibility. I ask that we share the same vision and that’s working towards winning a championship. To our fans, simply put, expect a winning team that you will be proud of.”
Adam Schefter pointed out that: “The Jets have now hired seven head coaches since the end of the 2000 season — and with Aaron Glenn — six of them have been first-time head coaches with defensive backgrounds: Herm Edwards, Eric Mangini, Rex Ryan, Todd Bowles, Robert Saleh, and Glenn. The lone exception: Adam Gase.”
“Aaron Glenn is as good a coach as you’re going to find, he’s an even better human being,” said Lions HC Dan Campbell of Glenn in January. So maybe this hiring will have better success.
