Ravens’ Mark Andrews Likely To Face NFL Discipline

After playing at MVP caliber level all season it looked like Lamar Jackson was poised to get to the big game. However, that wasn’t how things turned out this past Sunday as the Baltimore Ravens fell to the Buffalo Bills. Many blamed tight end Mark Andrews as the reason for their loss. Andrews had the chance to catch a 2-pt. conversion pass but dropped it. Fans were angry about the drop and Andrews and his girlfriend suffered backlash on social media. But despite that unfortunate circumstance, the Ravens’ Mark Andrews is likely to face NFL discipline.

Now what would they need to discipline Andrews for considering he was already feeling down and out? Apparently Andrews failed to fulfill the league’s mandatory postgame media availability requirement. Therefore, he will likely receive a fine at some point for the indiscretion during the offseason. The rule is spelled out in the Pro Football Writers of America’s NFL Media Access Policy. It states:

“POST-GAME ACCESS – After a reasonable waiting period, defined as 10-15 minutes maximum after the completion of the game and the players have entered the locker room, the home and visiting locker room areas will be opened to accredited media for immediate access to all players for the sole purpose of conducting interviews.”

Reporters weren’t able to speak to Andrews after the game so that would put him in violation of the rule. And of course he was highly sought after to get his thoughts on the dropped 2-pt conversion pass. And also on his being stripped of the ball by Buffalo linebacker Terrel Bernard in the fourth quarter. Obviously Andrews was not up for talking about his miscues during the game. Especially after losing the game to the Bills.

Although the public may have been skewering Andrews for his mistakes that’s not what his teammates were doing. Kyle Hamilton was quick to come to his defense:

“One play doesn’t define anybody,” Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton said of his beleaguered teammate. “He’s the all-time leading touchdown receiver in Ravens history. For anyone to say anything about him, you have to look in the mirror and evaluate your thorough process. He’s been a consistent beacon of success the whole time he’s been here.”

And he’s right to say so as Andrews is one of the most dependable weapons for Lamar Jackson. He finished the season with 55 receptions, 673 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was the go-to guy for Jackson on many occasions. The mistakes made in the divisional playoff game shouldn’t be the only things by which he is judged. I feel bad for him and adding the media fine is just pouring salt on an open wound.
