Bills Held The Ravens In Check To Advance To Championship

After watching one snowy game it was time to tune in to another snow bowl game. The Baltimore Ravens paid a visit to the Buffalo Bills for the AFC Divisional Playoff game. The game we had all been waiting for to see if Lamar Jackson could finally get over the hump. But Josh Allen had other plans as he too needed this win badly. And in the end it was the Bills who held the Ravens in check to advance to the AFC Championship game.

The Ravens got the ball first and started with a bang. They marched 73 yards in 10 plays for Rashod Bateman to score the 16-yard touchdown. But not to be outdone the Bills came out firing on all cylinders. Their 13 play drive was highlighted by a 34-yard pass from Josh Allen to Khalil Shakir. Ray Davis ran the ball into the end zone for the 1-yard touchdown. Things went left for the Ravens on their next drive. After Derrick Henry was stopped for a 1-yard loss, Lamar Jackson heaved a pass down the field which was intercepted by Taylor Rapp. But the Bills couldn’t take advantage and had to punt.

In the second quarter the Ravens had a good drive going with some big chunk runs. However, when they got to 2nd & 10 at BUF 28, Jackson was sacked and Von Miller recovered the fumble. The Bills made them pay for that mistake with a touchdown run by Allen for a yard. Baltimore came back and was moving the ball again when Jackson was sacked for five yards and then had an incomplete pass. So Justin Tucker kicked the 26 yard field goal. Buffalo got the ball back and was on the move when Baltimore was called for a pass interference penalty.

That gave the Bills 1st & 10 at BAL 12. A couple plays later Allen ran the ball in again for a four yard touchdown. The Ravens took a knee to end the half, trailing 10-21.During the first half Jackson was making mistakes he normally wouldn’t. Losing yards, getting sacked, not getting rid of the ball. He would need to clean that up in the second half.

To start the third quarter the Bills went three and out and punted. However, the Ravens moved the ball 40 yards and was stalled so Tucker kicked the 47-yard field goal. Buffalo had to punt again and the Ravens moved the ball with more big runs from Henry and Justice Hill. Henry ran the ball in for a 5-yard touchdown but the 2 pt. attempt failed. In the fourth quarter the Bills drive stalled with some incomplete passes and Tyler Bass kicked a 51-yard field goal. The Ravens committed another turnover when Mark Andrews fumbled the ball and the Bills recovered it. That led to another field goal for the Bills.

However, the Ravens kept things interesting by going 88 yards in just under two minutes. Jackson found Isaiah Likely in the end zone for the 24-yard touchdown. They had to go for the 2 pt. conversion to tie the game. Jackson had Andrews in the corner of the end zone but he couldn’t hold on to the ball. Buffalo got the ball back and picked up a first down. That allowed them to kneel on the ball and get the 25-27 victory.

Josh Allen Gets Monkey Off His Back

This game could have been the Ravens but with the fumbles, interceptions and avoidable penalties they shot themselves in the foot. Their roster is more than capable of winning these games. I think the team could use some therapy to figure out why they underperform in the playoffs.

Josh Allen had a similar struggle but this time his team came through and helped win this game. Now they have to keep that confidence going into Kansas City next week. They were responsible for the Chiefs only regular season loss. Can they do it again? I believe they can but it’s going to be their biggest challenge yet.
