Kansas City Chiefs Buck the Houston Texans Out of the Playoffs
These teams started off evenly matched. However, a few cracks in Houston’s game plan would begin to appear in the second half of this postseason matchup. Nevertheless, in the end the reigning champions, the Kansas City Chiefs would buck the Houston Texans right out of the playoffs. Let’s recap all the action!
The red zone proved to be a tough spot for both teams. Defense kept Houston and Kansas City out of the end zone for most of the first half. However, the Chiefs and Texans on their first possessions of the game would both get on the scoreboard with a FG.
Nevertheless, with time ticking down in the second quarter, Mahomes and company would finally pull away a little. For some reason, Houston fails to cover Travis Kelce… yes, Kelce. The Chiefs long time weapon. Well, Travis makes them pay for their error with his longest catch-and-run of the year at 49 yards; he drags the Chiefs to within just a few yards of the end zone. A Kareem Hunt 1 yard TD run then puts Kansas City up 13-3.
However, before the half ends Houston is able to chip away just a tad at the Chiefs’ 10 point lead. They go nine plays in about four and half minutes in order to set up a Ka’imi Fairbairn 48 yard field goal. The attempt is good despite strong winds and it is now a seven point game going into halftime, 6-13.

Houston had the ball first in the third quarter. And they took advantage by scoring a TD. However, the extra point would be no good. Allowing the Chiefs to stay ahead by one point.
Call that a sign. Or an omen. But after that moment it seemed things really just unraveled for the Texans.
Of course, there were quite a few plays by the referees that were questionable. Yet still, the Texans needed to execute and at times quarterback CJ Stroud would hold onto the ball and take sacks. He was sacked at least eight times. Can’t win games with the QB on the ground.
On the other side of the ball Kansas City did what they are known for doing in the second half… score. The Chiefs tacked on another TD thanks to an INSANE Travis Kelce 11 yard TD pass from Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes was doing a “Smooth Criminal” lean forward as he successfully threw the pass. And a few minutes later once again KC changed the scoreboard with a Harrison Butker 27 yard field goal. Bringing the score to 12-23.
On their final possession the Texans did march down to the red zone; and looked to be threatening with two minutes to go. But while attempting a FG, it was blocked! Kansas City would recover the ball.
And that would be game. With this win KC will move on in their quest to three-peat; and on the way to their seventh straight AFC championship game. Playing next either the Baltimore Ravens or the Buffalo Bills.
