Eagles Hang On For The Divisional Win Against The Rams
The Los Angeles Rams had been plagued by injuries at the start of the season. However, as players got healthy their performance improved and they won their division with a 10-7 record. Whereas the Eagles were pretty consistent throughout the season also winning their division with a 14-3 record. Could the Rams find more success with a victory over the soaring Eagles? Especially since the Eagles beat the Rams in Week 12 in Los Angeles, 37-20. It wasn’t to be as the Eagles were able to hang on for the divisional win against the Rams.
Philadelphia got the ball to start the game and put together a very nice drive. It was capped off by a 44-yard touchdown run by QB Jalen Hurts. The bad part was that the extra point was missed. Los Angeles was not intimidated by the early score and went on a 15 yard drive that included a 20-yard run by Kyren Williams. Tyler Higbee caught the 4-yard pass for the touchdown and the lead. Following that each team went three and out with both quarterbacks each getting sacked and having to punt.
On the Eagles next possession the first play was an incomplete pass. But the Witherspoon was charged with an unnecessary roughness for 15 yards putting the Eagles at their 32 yard line. Hurts ran for no gain then hit Dallas Goedert for a six-yard pass. Saquon Barkley did what Saquon Barkley does running 62-yards for the Eagles second touchdown. The extra point was successful this time. The Rams answered with a 30-yard field goal after which both teams had to punt. Philly had one more chance to try to score before the half but Hurts had back-to-back sacks taking them out of field goal range. At halftime the Eagles were up 10-13.

The third quarter got off to a slow start as both teams went three and out and had to punt. It didn’t help that the snow was falling like a heavy blanket obscuring the field. On the Rams next drive they went 58 yards but Stafford was sacked on 3rd & 13 at PHI 13. So they settled for a 34-yard field goal. But the Eagles answered with their own 44-yard field goal. It was another quick three and out for the Rams and they punted. However, on 2nd & 6 at PHI 8, Hurts was sacked in the end zone giving the Rams a safety.
On the Rams next possession, after an 8-yard run, Kyren Williams fumbled the ball and the Eagles recovered it. It looked like Barkley had scored a touchdown but it was reversed after review. After that Lane Johnson was called for a false start penalty on 4th & 1 at LAR 1. So they kicked a 23-yard field goal. The Rams were struggling to move the ball and on 3rd & 10 Stafford was sacked at LAR 36 for a 9 yard loss. The Eagles recovered the fumble and turned it into a 37-yard field goal. Los Angeles had to punt again and Barkley then took the ball 78 yards for another touchdown. Another extra point was missed.
Philadelphia Eagles Advance To Championship Game
The Eagles had a 13 point lead and it looked as if the game was theirs. However, Stafford took the reins and led his team down the field in less than two minutes and scored a touchdown. With 2:51 left on the clock the Eagles just needed to pick up a first down but instead went three and out in 25 seconds. Again the Rams went down the field quickly but on 3rd & 2 at PHI 13 Stafford was sacked. On 4th & 11 at PHI 22 he heaved a pass but overthrew Puka Nacua. With 26 seconds left on the clock the Eagles took a knee to win the game 22 -28.
Jalen Hurts didn’t play with his usual efficiency. However, he and his team are moving on to the championship game to face the Washington Commanders.
