Titans Have Found Their New General Manager

Titans Have Found Their New General Manager

There were three teams in need of a new general manager: Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, and Las Vegas Raiders. We can scratch one team off the list now as the Titans have found their general manager. The Titans have replaced Ran Carthon with Kansas City Chiefs assistant GM Mike Gorbonzi. Other candidates the Titans interviewed include former Atlanta Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff and former Las Vegas Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie. Gorbonzi will have to determine what to do with the No.1 overall pick in the upcoming draft.

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter provided some details about the deal that was reached today:

“Deal reached: Titans and former Chiefs assistant GM Mike Borgonzi now officially have reached agreement on a five-year contract, tying him to Tennessee through the 2029 season, per sources. Borgonzi goes from aiming for a three-peat to now holding the draft’s No. 1 overall pick.”

Less than two weeks ago the Titans let Carthon go and wasted no time in selecting their new GM. Borgonzi was with the Kansas City Chiefs for 16 years. He was promoted to Assistant General Manager in 2021 after serving three seasons as the club’s Director of Football Operations (2018-20). And three seasons as the club’s Director of Player Personnel (2017)/Co-Director of Player Personnel (2015-16).

Coming from a winning background it’s not surprising that the Chiefs named Borgonzi to the position. He played a role in putting together three Super Bowl winning rosters, including back-to-back Super Bowl teams (LVII and LVIII). He helped to curate Chiefs that teams participated in four of the last five Super Bowls (LIV, LV, LVII and LVIII). While winning eight-straight AFC West titles and appearing in six AFC Championship Games. And hosting a record breaking five AFC Championship Games.

Now comes the hard part, turning around a team that finished 3-14 for the 2024 season. On October 24, 2024 the Titans traded superstar wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Chiefs for a conditional 2025 fifth-round pick. Also, the Titans have questions surrounding the quarterback position. Is Will Levis the guy or will they go with someone else?

At any rate, Titans Controlling Owner Amy Strunk is happy with Borgonzi’s resume:

“Mike’s experience speaks for itself: he has been part of the core team that delivered four AFC championships and three Super Bowls over the past five seasons,” said Titans Controlling Owner Amy Adams Strunk. “It’s the type of standard I want to build here in Tennessee. I know we have a lot of work ahead of us, and I’m excited for Mike to get started.”

Congrats to Borgonzi on the promotion!
