Milwaukee Brewers Broadcaster Bob Uecker Has Died at 90

Just a bit outside.” Major League Baseball has lost another icon. A man that leaves a nine decade legacy that made us smile, made us laugh; and had us on the edge of our seats play after play. It is with very heavy hearts that we report that the beloved Milwaukee Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker has died at 90.

Player. Broadcast and WWE Hall of Famer. Legend. Bob Uecker will always be one of the greatest comedic geniuses the sports world has ever known.

As soon as news of Uecker’s passing was confirmed, the MLB released an official statement in regards to his incredible contributions and career. The league says,

“We are saddened to learn of the passing of Bob Uecker, a legendary ambassador for our game.

After a six-year playing career with the Braves, Cardinals and Phillies from 1962-67, Uecker spent more than half a century as “Voice of the Brewers” beginning in 1971.

Uecker’s self-deprecating humor endeared him to a national audience. He appeared in popular movies, commercials, talk shows, and even starred in his own TV sitcom. As a broadcaster, he worked national telecasts, All-Star Games, and the World Series. His dry style and wit belied a deep knowledge and passion for baseball, all of which made him one of the game’s finest broadcasters.

Uecker, a member of the 1964 World Series champion Cardinals, was the 2003 Ford C. Frick Award winner and a five-time Wisconsin Sportscaster of the Year. He was 90 years old.”

Bob famously once said,You know, I was once named Minor League Player of the Year… unfortunately, I had been in the majors for two years at the time.” The man humorously understood his strengths. Uecker was a career .200 hitter but gained fame thanks to his quick wit.

He would later on be nicknamed “Mr. Baseball” by “Tonight Show” host Johnny Carson during one of Uecker’s 100 or so appearances on late-night TV. Uecker also made a name for himself starring in a popular series of Miller Lite commercials; then in the ABC sitcom “Mr. Belvedere” and in the “Major League” film trilogy.

He also was a bit of a writer, authoring two books. Took a turn hosting “Saturday Night Live” and WrestleMania, and famously gracing the pages of Sports Illustrated as a septuagenarian in a speedo. As we said… an icon.

Along with the league, the Milwaukee Brewers also put out a statement on Uecker. They mention,

“Today we take on the heaviest of burdens. Today, we say goodbye to our beloved friend, Bob Uecker.

Ueck was the light of the Brewers, the soundtrack of our summers, the laughter in our hearts, and his passing is a profound loss. He was the heart and soul of Wisconsin and a dear friend. Bob loved people, his presence warmed every room and he had a way of welcoming all of us into his world as if we were lifelong friends.

Saying goodbye to Bob shakes us all. He was so much more than a Milwaukee Brewers icon. He was a national treasure. Bob entertained us with his words and storytelling. So it is no surprise that his passing now leaves us at a loss for our own words.

There is no describing the impact Ueck had on so many, and no words for how much he was loved. We are left with a giant void in our hearts. But also remember the laughter and joy he brought to our lives.”

Uecker always knew the right thing to say. But at a time such as this, we do not. All we can say is thanks for the wonderful memories Bob Uecker; you will truly be missed.
