Seattle Seahawks Still In The Playoff Hunt After Win Over Bears

Chicago had been on a nine-game losing streak since their Week 7 bye. Whereas the Seahawks were 3-6 at home but 5-1 on the road. Seattle knew a victory was needed tonight if they wanted to play beyond the regular season. Chicago had nothing to play for except to possibly ruin someone else’s playoff chances. But the Seattle Seahawks did enough so that they are still in the playoff hunt after their win over the Bears.

Seattle got off to a good start effectively using their running game to move down the field. Between Kenny McIntosh and Zach Charbonnet seven of the eleven plays were rushes. But in the red zone, Geno Smith was almost picked off so the Seahawks kicked a 27 yard field goal. Chicago took the field and quickly went three and out. Seattle’s second possession was not good as Smith was immediately sacked for an eight yard loss and the Seahawks punted. Chicago picked up a first down but then had to punt but Seattle went three and out and punted.

Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze were not on the same page and couldn’t connect so Chicago punted. The first penalty flag (offensive offside) was thrown in the second quarter along with another Seattle punt. Chicago finally started to cook with Williams connecting with D’Andre Swift and some tough running from D.J. Moore. Williams corralled a errant snap and tossed it to Keenan Allen who picked up 17 yards. A touchdown pass was nullified by an offensive holding penalty so the Bears settled for a 42-yard field goal.

D.K. Metcalf got into a shoving match with a Bears defender and got a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. But Seattle overcame it by getting into field goal range and kicking a 50-yard field goal. Halftime score was 6-3, Seattle.

It had started raining in the first half and it continued coming down pretty good as the third quarter started. The Bears went three and out and punted again. Smith picked up a first down by running but later was sacked and fumbled the ball so Seattle punted. After another Bears punt the Seahawks turned the ball over; Pharaoh Brown fumbled the ball which Chicago recovered. The third quarter ended with another Williams’ sack. And the fourth quarter started with another Bears’ punt. And that’s what happened for the rest of the game, punts. The Bears went for it on 4th & 10 at SEA 40 and Williams was intercepted. So the final score was 6-3.

Chicago will be looking for a new head coach while Seattle still has playoff hopes.
