Green Bay Grounded The Seahawks On Sunday Night Football

Seattle needed the win to stay in first place in the NFC West. Green Bay needed the win to stay in the playoff race. So we expected nothing but fireworks from this game. But it was the Packers who brought the heat as Green Bay grounded the Seahawks on Sunday Night Football.

Green Bay started with good field position on the opening drive. After a couple of Jordan Love passes the rest of the drive was all Josh Jacobs who scored Green Bay’s first touchdown. Seattle got a first down, but on 3rd & 4 at SEA 46 Geno Smith took a big sack forcing the Seahawks to punt. With a few passes from Love mixed in the Packers went on another scoring drive. The rushing game did the heavy lifting but Romeo Doubs put on the finishing touch. Love threw him a short pass and after the catch he dragged a couple defenders about seven yards into the end zone.

The Seahawks were able to get something going on their second drive with some big completions by Smith. And a 16-yard run by Zach Charbonnet got them to the GB 32. However, on 3rd & 2 at GB 24 Smith took a six-yard sack and they had to settle for a 48 yard field goal. On the Packers next drive, the Seahawks’ defense stuffed the run three times. And Green Bay kicked a 39-yard field goal. Seattle then methodically moved the ball down the field with a good mix of the pass and run. However, on 3rd & 9 at GB 12 Smith tried to connect with Noah Fant but was intercepted. Green Bay had two timeouts but let a lot of time run off. They had to kick a field goal and the half ended with the Packers up 20-3.

In the third quarter each team punted. Then each one got a field goal, Green Bay 23 yards, Seattle 45 yards.

The fourth quarter was brutal for Green Bay, they couldn’t get going offensively. Then Josh Jacobs fumbled the ball which Seattle recovered. Seattle passed the ball on every play until Charbonnet ran the ball 24 yards for the touchdown. Green Bay punted again and turned the ball over on downs on 4th & 2 at SEA 39. However, Sam Howell after being sacked, was intercepted by Edgerrin Cooper. Green Bay converted it into a touchdown, winning the game 30-13.

Geno Smith sustained a knee injury in the third quarter. It was wrapped with a heating pad and ace bandage, he didn’t return. The Packers would have the sixth spot in the playoffs if the season ended today. Their win also clinched a playoff spot for the Vikings.
