Roki Sasaki Has 3 Factors He’s Looking For in a Team; Which Ball Clubs in the Mix

The MLB is finally beginning to feel like it is awakening from the depths of inactivity. Juan Soto’s historic decision finally dropped, as his bank account is now $765 million richer and he the highest paid athlete in professional sports and baseball history. However, with winter meetings under way, another highly sought after name is making plenty of waves; but he doesn’t want to just sign anywhere. Pitcher Roki Sasaki has 3 factors he’s looking for in a team.

Roki Sasaki, whose dream is to play baseball in America’s professional league, has been posted so he is up for grabs. His window runs from December 10th until 5 P.M. (ET) on January 23rd. So franchises that are interested need to not waste time, but get on their horse.

Several presentations will be made to Sasaki in the coming days in hopes of swaying his final decision. However, the competition is still stiff. Every team needs pitching and would love to get their hands on a guy that will definitely make their rotation stronger. Even executive Andrew Friedman acknowledged that Roki Sasaki is a major priority for the Dodgers. But understands they aren’t the only ones gunning for Sasaki. Friedman mentions,

“He is someone that obviously is a major priority for us and we’re going to do whatever we can, and know that there are a lot of other teams that are going to do the exact same thing.

[Sasaki] has talked about his desire to be the best pitcher in the world, and we believe he’s capable of being the best pitcher in the world.”

Well, plenty of other organizations believe in Roki as well. Several sources have stated however that Sasaki does have some criteria he is looking for when weighing his big decision. Which makes sense. A player of his talents is no doubt thinking long term and how to best set his career up. MLB analyst and insider for CBS and The Athletic, Jim Bowden reveals,

“Roki Sasaki is now expected to sign with an MLB team between January 15-23rd. [The] Padres, Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, Rays; Cubs, Dodgers and Phillies [are] among the teams in the mix. Potential income from endorsements, chances to win & pitching development will be [the] 3 key factors in his decision.”

So then, for emphasis what Roki is after is:

  • A team in a position to win championships
  • Franchises that are excellent at developing their players; especially pitchers
  • And a ball club in a market that will make lucrative endorsements/ sponsorships possible

A very understandable list. And the teams in on him can offer such things. So buckle in everyone, the Roki Sasaki sweepstakes is getting good.
