Blake Snell and Dodgers Agree to 5-Year $182 Million Contract
Los Angeles just had a parade for being World Series champions. And it looks like they are only continuing to build to do it again… perhaps many many more times again. Last year the men in blue added power hurlers Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow; and now this offseason they are bringing in a two-time Cy Young winner into their growing family. On Tuesday evening it was confirmed that Blake Snell and the Dodgers have agreed to a 5-Year $182 million contract.
So then, Snell finally gets that big deal that he’s been after. During the 2024 season, Blake took a smaller two-year contract that landed him temporarily with the San Francisco Giants. However, after getting up to speed due to a “late” season start; Snell looked really GOOD. Los Angeles took note and then wrote a check.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan broke the news via social media platform, X. Passan reveals,
“Left-hander Blake Snell and the Los Angeles Dodgers are in agreement on a five-year, $182 million contract, pending physical, sources tell me and Jorge Castillo. The World Series champions get the two-time Cy Young winner in the first nine-figure deal of the winter.”

Yes, it’s been quiet for the most part this offseason, but things should begin to heat up. Everyone needs pitching. Everyone needs SOMETHING. You can’t win a championship without all the right pieces in place.
And for the Dodgers they felt they needed Snell. A mound tosser notorious for being lights out the second half the season. Just when you need pitchers to be especially effective and hot.
Nonetheless, it looks like the Dodgers are still utilizing deferring cash to their advantage; well, a tad bit. Dodgers beat writer for the LA Times, Jack Harris mentions, “Blake Snell’s contract with the Dodgers includes a $52 million signing bonus and some deferred money, per source. A few more details on Blake Snell’s contract with Dodgers: — About $60 million will be deferred — If the Dodgers were to trade Snell, he would be paid an additional $5 million by the team.”
Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic backed up Jack regarding the deferred compensation. He adds,
“Blake Snell’s deal includes a $52 million signing bonus, source confirms. Jack Harris
was on that. The signing bonus basically makes sure the present value of the deal is still high even with the deferrals. AAV is $36.4m, but his CBT figure is expected to be around $32-33m.”
Well, that’s that then. Congratulations to Blake on the contract. And now we will see what other moves the Dodgers and the rest of the league make.
