Harbaugh Brothers Battled On Monday Night Football
It wasn’t the first time they faced off over the gridiron. The youngest got the better of the eldest in Super Bowl XLVII. But the teams were different this time, at least for Jim, as the Harbaugh brothers battled it out on Monday Night Football. It was John Harbaugh and the Baltimore Ravens versus Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers. Both coaches are fortunate to have top-tier quarterbacks in Lamar Jackson and Justin Herbert. Herbert got the party started by leading his team on a game-opening touchdown drive. He had a couple of double digit yard passes mixed with some nice runs.
In the first quarter Jackson and his offense were off to a slow start. The Chargers defense kept good containment on running back Derrick Henry. While Jackson was off on some of his throws, many of them being too high for the receivers. But the receivers also dropped some passes that should have been caught. The defense allowed the Chargers to score a 42-yard field goal increasing their lead to 10-0. But as has happened several times this season the Ravens came to life and started putting some drives together.
After the Chargers field-goal drive, the Ravens answered. They kept the drive alive going for 4th & 1 at their 16 yard-line. Derrick Henry ripped off 19 and 14-yard runs consecutively. Eventually, Jackson ran the ball into the end zone for the 10-yard touchdown. The Ravens defense forced the Chargers to punt and the Ravens offense scored again. Largely due to the 40-yard touchdown pass to Rashod Bateman. However, the Chargers rallied and with just 24 seconds got into range to kick a successful 52-yard field goal. The Ravens had the 14-13 lead at halftime.

To open the third quarter the Ravens kept their scoring streak going. Jackson connected with tight end Mark Andrews and wide receiver Zay flowers during the drive. However, a sack and an incomplete pass left them settling for the 45-yard field goal. And the Chargers hung in there by answering with a 52-yard field goal. In the fourth quarter the Ravens ate up 6:36 of the clock with a 16 play 80-yard touchdown drive capped by Mark Andrews end zone catch.
Either the fire or the fight had gone out of the Chargers because they had to punt twice while the Ravens scored another touchdown. With about three minutes left in the game the Chargers drove down the field to get a touchdown. However, the onside kick that followed was unsuccessful. So the Ravens kneeled on the ball to claim the 30-23 victory for John Harbaugh. He leads the sibling rivalry bowl 3-0.
