2025 Major League Baseball Hall of Fame Ballot

It is that time of year. When baseball enthusiasts find out which of their old school favorites have a chance to have their talents and achievements immortalized for all time. On Monday, the MLB and the Baseball Writers Association of America announced the big news regarding the 2025 Major League Baseball Hall of Fame Ballot.

The MLB got the excitement going early by heading online to tell one of all about the players involved as well as the date the results will be revealed. The league states,

“The 2025 Baseball Writers’ Association of America Hall of Fame ballot was released on Monday. It is headlined by one of baseball’s best hitters (Ichiro Suzuki), one of its best starting pitchers (CC Sabathia) and one of its best closers (Billy Wagner), each of whom could be in the same Cooperstown class next summer.

The remaining returning candidates are Chase Utley (28.8% last year, second ballot in 2025), Omar Vizquel (17.7% last year, eighth ballot), Bobby Abreu (14.8%, sixth ballot), Jimmy Rollins (14.8%, fourth ballot), Andy Pettitte (13.5%, seventh ballot), Mark Buehrle (8.3%, fifth ballot), Francisco Rodríguez (7.8%, third ballot), Torii Hunter (7.3%, fifth ballot) and David Wright (6.2%, second ballot).

All eligible BBWAA voters have a deadline of Dec. 31 to submit their ballots. The results will be announced on Jan. 21, live on MLB Network. All players who receive 75% of the vote and anyone elected from the Classic Baseball Era ballot will be enshrined during the 2025 Induction Ceremony on July 27 in Cooperstown, N.Y.”

A few highlights from everyone named, are CC Sabathia and Ichiro Suzuki. Ichiro and Sabathia lead a group of 14 players who are on the ballot for the first time. Ichiro, Sabathia and “returner” Wagner are getting the bulk of attention because they are favorites to actually make in when the voting dust eventually clears. Wagner came SO close last year, receiving a smidge over 73% of the vote. Being in his tenth and final year, it may sway the last 2% to vote in his favor.

Furthermore, Ichiro is a member of the 3,000 hit club, was selected as an All-Star 10 times, has  a ROY and AL MVP under his belt; won 10 gold gloves and had 10 200-hit seasons. The man seemed to like the number ten a lot.

Moreover, World Series champion Sabathia also makes a good case. He is just one of 15 pitchers with at least 250 wins and 3,000 strikeouts. He also won the Cy Young and was a six time All-Star. Therefore, look for him and the other two gentlemen to get some votes their way for enshrinement.

But what about some of the other first timers that will find their names up for ballot? Some amazing players included are Red Sox two-time World Series champion Dustin Pedroia and another would be Mariners legend Félix Hernández. The other first-timers are Carlos González, Curtis Granderson, Adam Jones, Ian Kinsler, Russell Martin, Brian McCann, Hanley Ramirez, Fernando Rodney, Troy Tulowitzki and Ben Zobrist.

However, now we wait. All voters will have about a month to think over their options and decisions. As the Baseball Hall of Fame mentions,

“THE 2025 Ballot: Bobby Abreu, Carlos Beltrán, Mark Buehrle, Carlos González, Curtis Granderson, Félix Hernández, Torii Hunter, Adam Jones, Andruw Jones, Ian Kinsler, Russell Martin, Brian McCann, Dustin Pedroia, Andy Pettitte, Hanley Ramírez, Manny Ramírez, Fernando Rodney, Álex Rodríguez, Francisco Rodríguez, Jimmy Rollins, CC Sabathia, Ichiro Suzuki, Troy Tulowitzki, Chase Utley, Omar Vizquel, Billy Wagner, David Wright, Ben Zobrist.

Voters must return ballots by a Dec. 31 postmark. Votes are counted jointly by BBWAA secretary-treasurer Jack O’Connell and Ernst & Young partner Mark Moran. Results will be announced by Hall of Fame president Josh Rawitch at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025, live on MLB Network.”

Nice. We can’t wait to see who makes it. And at least we are just weeks away from finding out.
