New York Giants Are Making A Change At Quarterback

There have been a few quarterback changes throughout the league. The Raiders have waffled back and forth with their quarterback as have the Carolina Panthers. Even the Colts just switched back to Anthony Richardson after a two-week benching. Now the New York Giants are making a change at quarterback coming out of their bye week. Head coach Brian Daboll announced Monday that Tommy DeVito will start in place of Daniel Jones. Drew Lock will serve as the No. 2 quarterback. Currently sitting at 2-8, the Giants have lost five consecutive games, including a 20-17 overtime loss to the Carolina Panthers in Germany before the bye week.

This change is in line with what General Manager Joe Schoen spoke about in his press conference last Friday:

“Nobody’s happy that we’re 2-8,” Schoen said. “…It’s not where we want to be. We’re going to start looking for solutions. We do it every week. You go to each game and you’re looking at matchups and being competitive. We’ve been competitive in the games. We’ve got to find ways to finish games. That’s what we’ll do the rest of the week, whether it’s the way we practice, the way we’re doing things, scheme, coaching, personnel, whatever it is. We’re going to look under every rock and try to figure out solutions moving forward. We got seven games left. So, there’s still a lot of time to play. I believe in the process. I believe where we’re going. Again, doing it sometimes it hurts and it’s painful and it’s hard to go through it. But we’re going in the right direction.”

This will be DeVito’s seventh start in his career. Last season, the undrafted third-string rookie went 3-3 after being given the starting job.

DeVito has appeared in a total of nine games during which time he completed 64 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns to three interceptions for a career passer rating of 89.2. Last year, he became the first undrafted rookie since 1970 to have three consecutive games with a passer rating above 100.

Being the starting quarterback for the historic organization thrust DeVito into a very bright spotlight last year. Everyone wanted to know everything about him. He revealed that he still lived at home with his parents in New Jersey. According to DeVito, living with his parents is great because he does not have to worry about doing laundry or what he is eating for dinner. “Chicken cutlets and all that is waiting for me when I get there,” he said. And that’s how he got the nickname “Tommy Cutlets.”

It looks like “Cutlets” will be in the spotlight once again.
