New York Jets Came Back And Toppled The Houston Texans

Primetime games have not been kind to the Jets. They were 1-3 this season and 2-7 in night games since 2023. They were 7-17 at home in primetime since MetLife opened in 2010. The Jets came into this game with a 2-6 record while the Texans’ record was 6-2. And yet they were favored to win on Thursday Night Football. And despite all of that the New York Jets came back and toppled the Houston Texans. Maybe because it was a must-win game for the Jets to save their season. Or maybe because they beat the Texans 30-6 last season at MetLife.

The Texans started their opening drive with nothing but passes four of which were incomplete and not one rushing attempt. That was a curious decision since QB C.J. Stroud has been under pressure all season long. He doesn’t often have time to throw and that was painfully obvious last night. The Texans punted and the Jets didn’t fare any better on their opening drive. Aaron Rodgers threw two incomplete passes and then was sacked on third down so the Jets punted. On the Texans next possession they started at their 47 yard line. It wasn’t pretty but they got the ball down to the Jets 12 yard line. Then disaster struck when Stroud was again under pressure and had the ball knocked out of his hand. The Jets recovered it but couldn’t capitalize on the turnover.

This was how the first half went with both teams making mistakes as there were quite a few penalty flags thrown. Finally the Texans got on the board with a touchdown. Joe Mixon was gouging the Jets rushing the ball. He had 86 yards by the end of the half. The Jets offense had been shutout so the score at halftime was 7-0.

But the tables finally turned in the Jets favor in the second half. They started having success with their running game and Rodgers eventually found Garrett Wilson for a 21-yard touchdown. While the Texans had to settle for field goals the Jets were scoring touchdowns. The Texans also had a missed 52-yard field goal attempt. In the fourth quarter the Jets, well really turned on the jets. Wilson caught another touchdown, a ridiculous end zone catch where he got one foot and one shin down. Originally it had been ruled incomplete but that call was reversed. And the Jets put the final nail in the coffin on a Rodgers to Davante Adams 37-yard touchdown catch.

Was this the game that got the Jets season back on track? We’ll see how things develop from here.
