Brandon Aiyuk And Deshaun Watson Are Out For The Season
Sometimes you just can’t catch a break and that seems to be the case for the San Francisco 49ers and the Cleveland Browns. Both teams have lost key players after Week 7. Brandon Aiyuk of the 49ers and Deshaun Watson of the Cleveland Browns are out for the rest of the season. News came out that Brandon Aiyuk tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee in the 49ers loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. He will require surgery which will end his 2024 season. Head coach Kyle Shanahan stated:
“I talked with him last night, called him at his house,” Shanahan said. “I haven’t seen him today, but he was, he was hurting and just bummed out, you know, as exactly how you’d expect. But, BA is a strong dude and a spiritual guy, and he believes everything happens for a reason. So, he’ll be all right, but he was definitely a little down last night. I was just telling him how bad I felt for him and let him know we’re all here for him through this.”
With this injury happening to Aiyuk it makes his decision to holdout earlier this year the right one. His new contract provides the security every player desires as he starts on the long road back to recovery.
And to add insult to injury Deebo Samuel is in the hospital with a form of pneumonia, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. He has fluid in his lungs which is why he was struggling to breathe on Sunday. Shanahan added that at this time there is no return timeline for Samuel, who currently remains in the hospital.

The news was bad for the Cleveland Browns as well. Franchise QB Deshaun Watson went down on Sunday with a non-contact injury, a ruptured right Achilles tendon. He will undergo surgery to repair his Achilles injury, which will end his 2024 season. Watson’s injury will require surgical repair, and he will miss the remainder of the 2024 season. A full recovery is expected.
As Watson was being carted off the field many of the fans booed him. Watson’s teammates didn’t take kindly to the fans’ reactions. Myles Garrett said:
“We don’t boo guys that are injured on the field, especially when the cart comes out. We should be ashamed of ourselves as Browns and as fans to boo anyone and their downfall.”
Obviously the fans haven’t been happy with Watson’s performance this season. But booing a guy when he’s down is not a good look. The Browns have signed Bailey Zappe from the Chiefs’ practice squad.
