Jordan Love and Brett Favre Comparisons

Jordan Love and Brett Favre Comparisons: LaFleur Asked if “They Can Coach Favre Out” of Love

It was a very interesting postgame question. The Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was asked if the organization would be able to coach the Favre out of Love and all we could think was… why would you want to? Seriously, the Jordan Love and Brett Favre comparisons should not be viewed in such a negative manner.

Watching Brett Favre on the field was pure entertainment back in the day. Mister gunslinger could have 3 seconds on the clock and you still felt he stood a chance of winning the game with some crazy Hail Mary. Yes, Favre took a lot of risks, but a good chunk of them paid off and led to wins.

Furthermore, Brett is a Hall of Famer. AND he won the Green Bay franchise a Super Bowl. Despite how some may feel about the guy now; it does not erase how good Favre was as a Packer quarterback. Who would be against Love having such a football legacy as well?

Turns out the real issue here is interceptions. Favre definitely threw some in his era. Just to keep it real, Brett holds the NFL record for most career interceptions. Favre had a whopping 336 in his career. But because he was throwing like a mad man all over the field it sure as heck made for great entertainment for NFL fans.

Nonetheless, of course interceptions are definitely something any team would want or wish to minimize in their game plan. You can’t win games with turnovers. And you sure can’t win a championship like that either. Hence the question about removing this “Favre-like” attribute from Jordan Love. How did LaFleur respond? He states,

“Hopefully we can put him in better positions so he’s not throwing picks so all you talking heads out there can ease on the Brett Favre comparisons.”

While interceptions can be worrisome. Green Bay fans can still feel good about having a guy like Jordan Love. As sports reporter Aaron Nagler states,

“Jordan Love has thrown multiple TD passes in each of his last nine games, the third-longest streak in team history behind only Aaron Rodgers’ 13-game streak in 2011 and Brett Favre’s 12-game streak in 1994-95.”

The future is bright. Love has talent. And if Jordan ends up being like “good Favre;” Green Bay could be looking at another championship in their future.
