Caitlin Clark is First Rookie Since Candace Parker Named to All-WNBA First Team

She had a glorious first year in the W. Set the bar high and made a lot of history. And thanks to her the WNBA experienced it’s best season ever. Yet, now we can still add one more amazing accolade to an already impressive start in the WNBA. On Wednesday it was announced that, Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark is the first rookie since Candace Parker to be named to the All-WNBA First Team.

The Indiana Fever proudly took to social media in order to officially herald the exciting news surrounding Clark. The basketball organization states,

“One of the best in the league. Congratulations to [our very own] Caitlin Clark on being named to All-WNBA First Team.

Caitlin Clark is the first rookie since 2008 to be named to the All-WNBA First Team. She’s just the fifth rookie ever to earn the honors, alongside Fever legend Tamika Catchings.

[According to head coach Christie Sides], ‘She’s in the company of some of the greatest players in this league. She’s just doing things that special players can do.’

Caitlin Clark averaged 19.2 PPG, 8.4 APG & 5.7 RPG and led the league in APG and 3PM to earn All-WNBA First Team honors.”

The Women’s Basketball Association also had a few thoughts to add, including the confirmation of the Clark/Candace Parker connection. The WNBA mentions,

“Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark was named to the 2024 All-WNBA First Team, the league announced today. Clark received 52 First Team votes from a national panel of 67 sportswriters and broadcasters. Clark joins Tamika Catchings, who was a 7-time All-WNBA First Team recipient, as the only players in franchise history to earn All-WNBA First Team honors. Clark was also named the WNBA Rookie of the Year on October 3 and Associated Press Rookie of the Year on September 22.

Clark is the first rookie since Candace Parker in 2008 to be selected to the All-WNBA First Team, and the fifth rookie honored since 2000, joining Sue Bird (2002), Catchings (2002) and Diana Taurasi (2004).

In honor of their accomplishments, each member of the All-WNBA First Team will receive $10,300 and each member of the Second Team will receive $5,150.”

Nice. A well earned bonus. And we already can’t wait to see what Caitlin does in year two!
