With Injuries Mounting Are The Chiefs In Trouble

Of course they are 4-0 so there should be no need for alarm right? And they are the defending Super Bowl Champions so they can handle any adversity right? However, with the number of injuries mounting, are the Kansas City Chiefs in trouble? We know that injuries are a part of the game and effect every team. And despite being undefeated the Chiefs haven’t exactly looked like the Chiefs. It isn’t quite that high-powered offense we’ve been used to seeing since Patrick Mahomes came onboard.

Today it was reported that they will likely lose two more of their top-tier players. NFL Insider Adam Schefter posted about some of the Chiefs injuries:

“Chiefs WR Rashee Rice is feared to have suffered a torn ACL during Sunday’s game vs the Chargers, per sources. There will be additional testing to confirm the initial diagnosis. The Chiefs likely have lost both Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice for the season, and are currently without RB Isaiah Pacheco for about eight weeks. The team is 4-0, but the offense has been hit hard.”

Rice’s injury happened in the Sunday game against the Los Angeles Chargers in the first half. He had to be carted to the locker room. When Mahomes threw a pass intended for Travis Kelce he was intercepted. He accidentally dove into Rice’s knee while attempting to tackle Chargers defensive back Kristian Fulton. Right away the injury looked serious and he was immediately ruled out for the rest of the game. Head coach Andy Reid told reporters following the game that the team is hoping for the best despite not expecting the news it wants.

Rice had been a go-to option for Mahomes entering Week 4 with 24 catches, 288 yards and two touchdowns in three games. No other player on the team had double digit receptions, including Travis Kelce. He entered Week 4 with just 8 catches for 69 yards but his coach and teammates weren’t alarmed.

“I mean, the whole Kelce thing in general hasn’t been a worry to me,” Mahomes said. “I know whatever we need, he’s going to make plays. And that’s what he did today.”

Kelce ended Sunday’s game with seven receptions for 89 yards helping the Chiefs to a 17-10 win over the Chargers. He also surpassed Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez becoming the all-time leader in career receptions for the franchise.
With all the injuries on offense, they’re going to need Kelce more than ever. But as the offense has been struggling somewhat he may not be enough to keep their winning streak going.
