Some Thoughts on Sunday Games NFL Week 4

Some Thoughts On Sunday Games NFL Week 4

There were early tight battles for supremacy in the AFC and NFC South. Jordan Love returned to the game after suffering an MCL injury in the first game of the season. As always there are interesting plays in the NFL. So I’ll share some thoughts about some of the action on Sunday games of NFL Week 4. First up is the NFC South clash between the Saints and Falcons.

Saints @ Falcons – The Saints hurt themselves with mistakes. A tipped Derek Carr pass led to a 47-yard pick 6. They couldn’t get the ball into the end zone when they had first-and-goal from the five yard line in the fourth quarter. The Falcons didn’t score one touchdown but came back to win the game with a 58-yard field goal by Younghoe Koo.

Bengals @ Panthers – Andy Dalton couldn’t overcome his old team as the Panthers fell to the Bengals. Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase hooked up for a great 63-yard touchdown. And the Bengals rushing game garnered over 100 yards. The Panthers defense couldn’t stop the Bengals while at the same time losing players to injuries. Bengals got their first win of the season.

Rams @ Bears – Missed red zone opportunities spelled doom for the Rams. They were 1-4 whereas the Bears were 2-4 coming away with 2 touchdowns. Running back D’Andre Swift was a weapon for the Bears, posting 93 rushing yards, 72 receiving yards and a 36-yard rushing touchdown. The Rams effort to mount a comeback was cut short when Stafford was intercepted by Bears defensive back Jaquan Brisker. Caleb Williams took a knee to win the game 24-18.

Some Thoughts On Sunday Games NFL Week 4

Vikings @ Packers – Jordan Love looked rusty as he and his receivers were having a tough time connecting. Nothing went right for the Packers in the first half as the Vikings ran up 28 points. Love had two interceptions and kicker Brayden Narveson missed two field goals. Things improved for the Packers in the second half and they came close to getting the win. However, the Vikings did just enough to win the game 31-29.

Jaguars @ Texans – It looked like the Jaguars were going to prevail in the AFC South battle. They drew first blood but the Texans responded and tied the score. The lead went back and forth between the division rivals. Lawrence and the Jaguars looked much better this week than they did against the Bills in Week 3. But it was not to be for the Jaguars in the end. C.J. Stroud did his thing leading his team on a 10-play, 64 yard drive in 2:36 to score the go-ahead touchdown.

Thoughts On Sunday Afternoon Games

Steelers @ Colts – Colts QB Anthony Richardson sustained a hip injury and had to leave the game. 17-year veteran Joe Flacco came in for the rest of the game. He kept finding the open man and had success. The Steelers hung in there but their defense allowed more points (27) than they have given up in the first three weeks (26). Despite the Steelers scoring a season-high 24 points on offense they had their first loss of the season, 24-27.

Broncos @ Jets – It was ugly and rainy in New York. The first quarter featured punts and a fumble by each team. However, Bo Nix did throw his first career touchdown in the third quarter to take the lead 7-6. The Broncos defense dominated the Jets, sacking Aaron Rodgers five times. In the fourth quarter both teams scored a field goal. But the Jets missed a 50-yard field goal, so the Broncos won the game 10-9.

Eagles @ Buccaneers – The Eagles got into an early hole and couldn’t climb out of it. Their defense just couldn’t get off the field. They were bad in all three phases of the game. In contrast the Buccaneers offense got off to a fast start and jumped out to a 24-0 lead. Their defense came out firing on all cylinders, forcing three-and-outs on each of the Eagles’ first three possessions. The Bucs ran away with a 16-33 victory.

Commanders @ Cardinals – Rookie QB Jayden Daniels looked sharp, completing 26 of 30 passes for 233 yards, a touchdown and a pick. He also rushed for 47 yards and a touchdown. The Cardinals took an early 7-0 lead but couldn’t keep up with the Commanders mustering two touchdowns. Commanders laid on the beat down winning 42-14. Not the homecoming Arizona wanted for Jayden Daniels, former ASU alum.

Late Afternoon Games Notes

Patriots @ 49ers – The 49ers got back on track and easily handled the Patriots. The Patriots defense is not the defense it was last season and their offense still isn’t generating much offense. The 49ers welcomed George Kittle and Deebo Samuel Sr. back to the lineup and Brock Purdy got the ball to his offensive play makers. They didn’t quit on the game but the Patriots lost 13-30.

Chiefs @ Chargers – The Chargers got off to a fast start but then the offense bogged down. The field position was usually not good. Chargers went for a 4th & 1 but couldn’t punch it into the end zone. Both teams were a little sloppy and didn’t put up much offense. But the Chiefs defense was all over Justin Herbert. The Chiefs got a touchdown in the end to put the game away 17-10.

Browns @ Raiders – The Browns jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. Then the Raiders returned the favor in the second quarter tying the game 10-10 at the half. The Raiders rushing attack was on point and the Browns’ defense couldn’t stop it. In the fourth quarter the Browns offense had a chance to take the lead but Watson was sacked on fourth down. The Raiders got the 16-20 win.

Sunday Night Football Notes

Bills @ Ravens – Lamar Jackson and the Ravens offense came out on a tear. Scoring a touchdown on their first drive with just one play. Derrick Henry ran in an 87-yard touchdown which is the longest run in franchise history. He went on to amass 199 yards rushing in the game. The Ravens could have put up more points had the receivers not had so many dropped balls. Their defense shut-down the high-powered Bills offense chasing Josh Allen all over the field.

Allen is so good at extending plays, often throwing accurate passes down field while running out of bounds. But I wish he would throw the ball away more often because I think he’s going to end up getting hurt if he doesn’t. He and the Bills fought hard but couldn’t overcome the swarming defense. This game ended their streak of not losing by more than six points in the regular season since 2021. Although they lost 10-35 I’m sure they will regroup and get back on track.
