A Few Thoughts On NFL Sunday Week 3 Games

As always there were some surprises and upsets today. Some teams improved while others regressed. And there were quite a few quarterback sacks to go around. So let’s get into it. Here are a few thoughts on NFL Sunday Week 3 games.

Giants @ Browns – Despite Amari Cooper scoring both of their touchdowns the Browns offense struggled to move the ball. Whereas the Giants scored all three of their touchdowns in the first half. Deshaun Watson was sacked eight times.

Bears @ Colts – Caleb Williams showed improvement today putting up 363 yards. But they couldn’t score until the fourth quarter and weren’t able to overcome their double digit deficit. Jaylen Jones made a crazy one-handed interception giving momentum back to the Colts.

Texans @ Vikings – The Texans started the game with an interception and then a missed field goal. Crowd noise caused multiple false starts for the Texans. However, the Vikings defense put on a clinic forcing the Texans to punt often. Minnesota is 6-0 all-time against the Houston Texans.

Eagles @ Saints – If the Eagles would stop shooting themselves in the foot they could be a force to be reckoned with. Jalen Hurts threw an interception in the red zone and later fumbled the ball which the Saints recovered. Nick Sirianni went for it on fourth down twice instead of just attempting the field goals. That’s why they barely won 15-12.

Chargers @ Steelers – The Steelers offense showed up after a slow start. They went with the tried and true plan of playing great defense and running the ball. Their defense recorded five second-half sacks and allowed just one first down over the final two quarters.

Broncos @ Buccaneers – After a fast start to the season the Buccaneers offense was not able to sustain drives today. Baker Mayfield being sacked seven times didn’t help and they went 3-11 on third downs. Bo Nix and the Broncos came out firing scoring two TD’s and two FG’s in the first half. They won the game 26-7.

Packers @ Titans – QB Malik Willis has done a great job filling in for the injured Jordan Love. He kept drives alive with clutch throws converting several third downs. Willis was drafted by the Titans in 2022 and traded to the Packers this past August. If he wanted some revenge he got it.

Panthers @ Raiders – QB Andy Dalton started the game and the Panthers’ offense improved. However, the Raiders offense couldn’t get much going. And their defense today wasn’t the one that allowed an average of less than 200 passing yards a game in their first two contests.

Dolphins @ Seahawks – All the Dolphins could manage was a field goal as the Seahawks’ defense was dominant the whole game. The Dolphinsgot their first third down conversion in the fourth quarter. Seattle’s offense had too many third and long situations but was able to get the 3-24 victory.

Lions @ Cardinals – The Cardinals couldn’t get their running game going. Quarterback Kyler Murray was the team’s leading rusher with 45 yards. It was a back-and-forth affair until the Lions took the lead at the end of the first half and kept it winning 20-13.

Ravens @ Cowboys – The Ravens scored on their first two drives and led 28-6 to start the fourth quarter. But the Cowboys pulled within three of the Ravens after ripping off 19 points. However, the Ravens held on for the 28-25 win by converting a critical 3rd & 6 and running out the clock.

49ers @ Rams – The 49ers allowed the Rams to comeback in the fourth quarter after leading all game. They left too much time on the clock for Matthew Stafford to tie it up late in the fourth quarter. And then with less than a minute to go he got them into field goal range to win the game 24-27.

Chiefs @ Falcons – Falcons took their opening drive right down the field for a touchdown. Mahomes threw an interception into the end zone. But after that their offense got on track. In the second half they included Travis Kelce more and took the lead. Chiefs clinched the win stopping the Falcons on 4th & 1 with 54 seconds left. The Falcons need to stop with the lateral plays.
