Pittsburgh Steelers Extended Players And Other News
This has been a busy week of last minute deals getting done by teams before their season openers. And that has been the case in the Steel City. The Pittsburgh Steelers have extended two players and there is also other news about the quarterback situation. On Tuesday Sep. 3 the news broke that Pittsburgh had signed DL Cameron Heyward. They agreed to terms on a three-year, $45 million deal, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. The contract includes $29 million in new money, nearly $15 million at signing and $16 million fully guaranteed.
The 35-year-old defensive lineman was due $16 million in base salary for 2024 with no guaranteed money. Therefore, Heyward chose to sit out voluntary organized team activities this spring. But the Steelers showed their appreciation for all his hard work and got the deal.
Heyward has been selected to the Pro Bowl six-times between 2017-2022. He won the 2023 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award and over his career he’s produced 80.5 sacks and 647 tackles. Since being drafted in 2011 he’s been a positive presence for the Steelers on the field and in the locker room.
Pittsburgh has also signed tight end Pat Freiermuth to a five-year contract. They agreed to terms with the TE on a four-year, $48.4 million contract extension, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Friday per @AthletesFirst. Freiermuth is 25 and now locked up in Pittsburgh for the long haul.
