Shohei Ohtani Joins the 40-40 Club by Hitting 40th Career Home Run

Alright, is it time for all baseball enthusiasts to go ahead and start referring to this guy as GOAT-Tani? The Dodgers superstar continues to show why he is one of the best to ever play the game. His latest achievement? Shohei Ohtani joins the 40-40 club.

Yes, this means Ohtani this season has hit a massive 40 home runs. And worked hard to keep putting his team in scoring position. By stealing 40 bases.

Even without pitching on the mound, Shohei is making a strong case to receive some accolades at the end of the season. Moreover, with Los Angeles being plagued with the injury bug this year, one major constant and light at the end of the tunnel for the ball club has been Ohtani. He has stayed healthy. He has stayed effective at helping the Dodgers remain in control of their division.

Furthermore, with the playoff race heating up, this season should see September being a month of meaningful games. The NL West is one of the toughest divisions right now. With the Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Padres all duking it out and being a few games within each other. So then, having one of the best hitters in the league being hot at the plate is definitely what Los Angeles wants.

Nevertheless, getting back to Shohei’s 40-40 milestone. He hit this milestone on Friday in a matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays (LA won the game 7-3). Ohtani first stole the historic base in the fourth inning. Then in the ninth inning hit homer number 40. And he did in grand fashion… with a walk-off GRAND SLAM!

Shohei Ohtani Joins the 40-40 Club by Hitting 40th Career Home Run

Shohei Ohtani is now the fastest player in major league history to reach the vaunted 40/40 mark, doing so in his 126th game of the season. Who did he beat out? The answer: Alfonso Soriano held the previous mark, reaching 40/40 in 147 games for the Washington Nationals in 2006. After the game, Ohtani spoke to the press about his latest historical feat. He states,

“It’s really more about the winning. Obviously the record is part of the process, but I think the most important thing is about winning the game.”

So yes, records are nice. But Ohtani just wants to win work towards a championship. So far, in his career Shohei has not won a World Series. But he is hoping to change that with the Dodgers and bring some parades to Los Angeles.
