Bluejays Willing to Move Free Agents and Players Under Contract Beyond 2024

Bluejays Willing to Move Free Agents and Players Under Contract Beyond 2024

Toronto is waving the white flag, signaling to other ball clubs that they can come partake in their upcoming sale. The franchise plays in a pretty tough and competitive division with the Yankees, Orioles, Rays as well as Red Sox. Fall behind or falter in anyway in this division; and it’s beyond tough to get back in the running. Recognizing this the Bluejays are willing to move free agents and players under contract beyond 2024.

Coming out the break (and at the time of this posting), the Bluejays are standing currently at 44 wins for the year. How does that stack up against teams in their division. Well that puts them 14 games behind the current division leaders ( Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees tied at 58 wins). Nine games behind Boston and they are 8 games under .500.

With half of a season of games left to play, first digging out of the below .500 hole then catching up would simply be one tall order. Crazy things have happened, but the Bluejays would rather scrap this year, shake it off, and move forward with getting stronger for the 2025 season.

So then, it isn’t too surprising to see them putting guys on the trading table; in order to see what future player stock they can gain from other teams.

Bluejays Willing to Move Free Agents and Players Under Contract Beyond 2024

MLB Network’s Jon Morosi confirms the news about Toronto. Morosi reports,

“The Blue Jays are expected to consider trade offers for players under contract beyond 2024, not merely those on expiring contracts. A strong contingent of scouts will be in Toronto tonight for the Chris Bassitt-Jack Flaherty matchup.”

With several organizations in desperate need of pitching; one can see why this will definitely be the hot ticket in town. Bassitt so far this season has been not too shabby. With a 8-7 record, 3.52 ERA and 100 SO. For reference, the Phillies Aaron Nola’s stats right now are: 11 – 4 record, 3.38 ERA and 116 SO. Yes, Nola’s record is better, but the Phillies are firing on all cylinders; whereas the Bluejays have struggled in some areas.

Furthermore, recently Bassitt struggled a bit against the San Francisco Giants and the Houston Astros. But rebounded nicely against the Detroit Tigers. So then, teams looking for a guy that help them from the mound, Chris Bassitt is most likely a candidate they definitely have their eye on.
