New York Giants Revealed ‘Century Red’ Uniform

In keeping with the trend this year, another team has unveiled a new uniform. This one speaks to a nostalgic time in history, 100 years of history to be precise. Their counterparts, the New York Jets, paid tribute to their historical franchise. And now the New York Giants have revealed their ‘Century Red’ uniform honoring the early days of their franchise. The uniform features tan pants, red socks with blue and white stripes from the team’s inaugural 1925 season. And red jerseys accented with blue from 1933 which was when the team went to the first ever NFL Championship game.

Now that’s some serious history! Check out their hype video of the new uniform depicting a seamless blend of old and new. Looking at the video I have to agree with what OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux had to say. “I like the fact that we stick to the legacy,” outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux said, “and keep paying it forward.”

And teammate Bobby Okereke also chimed in. “I feel like it’s gritty and vintage,” linebacker Bobby Okereke said after he saw (and tried on) the uniform for the first time. “It’s a throwback to the 1920s, 1930s when they were out there just getting grimy. It’s a testament to all the guys who played before. They paved the way for us to play this great game.”

Both players clearly have a love and respect of the game and those who came before them. And no doubt they will wear the uniforms with pride. However, the commemorative uniform will only be worn up to two times this season.

The team also provided some background information about the “100 Seasons” Commemorative Patch.

“The commemorative logo was created to showcase the franchise’s rich history with the background shield inspired by the shape of the Polo Grounds, the team’s first home in 1925 – and with the zeros designed in the outline of Giants Stadium. At the base is a re-creation of the team’s classic skyline logo, representing every player who has worn the Giants uniform. The player is overlaid on a football, which is named “The Duke” in honor of Wellington Mara and features eight laces to symbolize the team’s eight NFL championships.”

Seems like a fitting tribute to me. Congratulations to the New York Giants on their 100th season and their commemorative uniform.
