Juan Soto Says He Is Open if the Yankees Want to Discuss Extension
It was the biggest blockbuster trade of the offseason; which brought Juan Soto back to the east coast shores. And crowds have not stopped cheering. This season Soto has been on absolute FIRE. With a .920 OPS, 9 home runs, 34 RBI, and 4 stolen bases; extending him is certainly on the Yankees minds. Interestingly, Juan Soto says he is “open” if they want to discuss an extension.
Therefore, it is no surprise that Yankees chairman Hal Steinbrenner is extremely forthcoming about keeping Soto for the rest of his playing days. In a presser, Steinbrenner admits,
“I think we’d like to see him here for the rest of his career. I don’t think there’s any doubt of that.”
BOOM. However, what about Soto? What are his feelings? Well, if you just look at how he is playing; Juan certainly looks like a guy who wants to be and to stay a Yankee. Yes, he speaks positively about former teams, but it is hard not to notice his increased vigor, feeding off the energy and excitement of the New York fanbase.
Furthermore, it is not just showing in body language and play on the field. Soto is getting pretty comfy talking about it. He says,
“My door is always open. Whenever [Hal] wants to start talking with Scott and all his people, they’re always open. They’re always open to hear whatever he has. And for me, I just focus on the game right now.”
Sounds simple enough. However, there is one small problem in this whole contract conversation. Juan Soto’s agent… Scott Boras. Boras is iconic for taking all of his high power clients to free agency.
However, the 2023 offseason was not so kind to all of the eligible free agents. While two way player, Shohei Ohtani, got the bag with a $700 million contract. Other players were unfortunately not so lucky. With some waiting for a team to lock them down close to, and even after the start of the 2024 season.

Nonetheless, Soto has definitely shown his worth to Yankee fans and the team record this season; has the Yankees back to where they like to be. Winning. Therefore, getting a deal done is definitely high on the list for New York and Juan sounds at least willing to hear a deal that would have him don pinstripes for the rest of his career.
