Angel Reese WNBA Debut Results in Sold Out Games and Increased Viewership
Fans have been eagerly waiting, but the Angel Reese WNBA debut is finally upon us. Reese was met by a sold out crowd and plenty of fans in attendance despite the game being played on the Dallas Wings home turf. This is only the third time that the College Park Center arena is experiencing its 7000 capacity being thoroughly utilized. It is also sold out for Saturday’s game.
So far, viewership numbers have been fantastic. Caitlin Clark and the Fever drew a 2.1 million audience. While a preseason game featuring the Chicago Sky also turned some heads. A cellphone stream of the Sky/Lynx game racked up nearly 2 million views. Causing the WNBA to decide to stream Angel Reese and Chicago’s following preseason matchup on the WNBA League Pass.
No network. Just millions of people trying to see Angel in action. Even on just their phones. Crazy.
Unfortunately, the Chicago Sky versus the Dallas Wings season tip-off matchup was once again not televised on a major network. However, this did not prevent fans in the least from heading online to stream the game. And those that checked in to see what was going on, are glad that they did. It was a great game.
The Sky came out swinging and took a commanding lead. Staying at times 9-10 points ahead on into the second half. Yet, the Wings were not broken. They came flying in with better defense and offense in the second quarter in order to shrink the Sky’s lead. Their persistence pays off.
The Wings are able to catch up! The Sky are able to barely retake the lead before the end of half. Leaving the score at 43-40.
Third quarter ends up just being a straight on BATTLE. Each team keeps exchanging blows. And the score is TIGHT. The score ends tied when the 3rd ends.
Fourth quarter begins with Angel Reese, being well, Angel Reese. She gets a steal and then goes all the way down the court to score. Lifting the Sky to a lead.
However, the Wings say, ‘Nah girl,’ and continue to bring heat. Puttin up 3’s, shooting some James Harden-esque floaters and eventually gaining a 4 point lead with just a smidge less than 2 minutes to go.
Chicago after that is never able to recover. Dallas keeps hammering the basket and takes a 10 point lead. Game ends with Dallas as the victors, winning 79-87.

The real heroes of the game on Dallas are Howard, Siegrist and Ogunbowale. Ogunbowale put up 25 points, 8 Ast, and 3 Reb. Howard had 15 points, 5 Ast, 13 Reb. And it was Siegrist in the 3rd that really put the Wings up and over the top in this game.
Although, Reese did not get as much playing time as some of her other teammates. She still ends the game with 12 points, 1 Ast and 7 Reb. Going forward she will certainly be an integral part of the Chicago team. And if the numbers between Caitlin and Angel continue; we are witnessing a real positive impact and change in women’s basketball.
