So they are putting their money where their mouth is and handing out a contract to their franchise quarterback. The Detroit Lions sign Jared Goff to 4-Year $212 Million contract; thus making him the highest paid Lion in their franchise’s history.
Jared Goff’s professional football career began 8 years ago. When he was the number one pick by the Los Angeles Rams. He was later traded to the Lions after the Rams decided they badly wanted Matthew Stafford. A move that worked out as Stafford and Rams went on to win a Super Bowl championship together.
However, this is a slightly odd trade, because it actually worked out quite well for the Lions as well. One piece of evidence being that Goff is no stranger to the Super Bowl either (Jared and the Rams lost in the SB in 2018). So then, he does have an appearance to the big game under his belt. Additionally, with Goff’s efforts in 2023 the Lions were serious contenders and made some franchise history along the way.
Nonetheless, Jared Goff is also in possession of something else that any franchise wants and desires to see when it comes to their quarterback at the helm. A winning record. Yes, Goff has a win/loss of 42-27. So he has almost won twice as much games as he has lost. Not too shabby.
For these reasons and more, the Lions are making sure that they have Goff around in order to hopefully keep the winning coming. Detroit last season won their division (the NFC North); finishing with a record of 12-5. With a dominating 3-5 more wins than anyone else in their division.

“Another done deal in Detroit: Lions are signing QB Jared Goff to a four-year, $212 million contract extension that includes $170 million guaranteed, sources tell ESPN. Goff now goes from former No. 1 overall pick to highest-paid Lion in franchise history.”
Sweet. Therefore, the NFL continues to dole out money to star players. And it will interesting to see if Goff and company can repeat their success of last season and finally get the monkey off Detroit’s back. And get a championship win for the city and the Lions franchise.
