Padres Nabil Crismatt Becomes Free Agent After Tuesday DFA’d
The end of another pitcher era. San Diego Padres are reporting that they are going in another direction with their pitching staff; which means someone had to go. Due to these moves Padres Nabil Crismatt becomes free agent looking for a new organization and home.
Crismatt had his moments for the Padres, but he was not the answer. For a time, his arm provides a nice amount of depth to the team’s bullpen. However, his inconsistency and inability to be more ‘lights out’ in key game situations; led to his quick dismissal.
Nevertheless, Crismatt is not allowing this upset in his career to get him down. He’s still confident that his story is not over and will continue on in the near future. This is a great attitude for any professional baseball player; because MLB is truly a business.
Nevertheless, Dennis Lin, a sports writer for The Athletic reports that Nabil is not only looking forward to the next chapter of his career; but that he still possesses high regard for the Padres organization despite his imminent departure. Nabil states,
“It’s a team that I have a great deal of love for, what they gave me the last three years. I was not expecting like a player to leave like this. … But it’s business. It’s the way baseball is. I know God has another place for me.”

What a great guy. Thanks for everything Nabil. Moreover, this is the part about baseball that is tough for everybody. Guys come and they go. One day the team is celebrating together, and the next day someone is cleaning out their locker.
However, right now the Padres do not have time to be too reflective on such matters. The team is currently under 500 and will finish the first half of this 2023 season still under. Therefore, if San Diego still hopes to slide into the playoffs, in most likely a WC spot; more changes will be necessary.
Over the next few weeks I expect to hear more and more announcements coming from the franchise. The city and fans do not want to give up on this season and I’m sure the Padres organization is working feverishly to salvage things as well. Will they be able to do it? There’s a chance, but they have to continue to act now, because it’s no longer “early.”
